Gosh Dan, that's fascinating. The whole thing has been so distorted by the media & legend that most of us just sit around wondering what really happened.

I did know Gerald and Joe Dallesandro and Viva and Ultra...Andy's personallt designated "superstas.". None of them was really "super," and they were only stars in Andy's mase-up world and his movies. Ultra was the not one who relly had any star potential, and that came more from her persinal magnetsm and her earthy and sensual contributions to te music of The Velvet Underground.

Dan I found the link & shared it. I think it's great for anyone with memories of that era to share them. I wasn't there. I tend to know poets & the poets still left & that I talk to mostly via the net (like the ubiquitous Tom Clark who was involved w/ the Warhol set via Gerard Malanga among others (I prod TC for info when I feel brave) who were in NYC tend to view RJ as a charming eccentric but not a whole more. Amongst the Black Mountain folks, there wasn't much mention of RJ back in the day to be honest; and that's the part I remember well. I used to show Bob Creeley m-a I'd received from time to time. He was interested but never mentioned RJ, and I realize now he must have been very familiar. Go figure. The m-a network didn't really explode until the 1980s. It took me a long time, in fact, to figure out that Blaster Al & JMB were a part or came out of the RJ network & it was really all one thing. It's a real lesson concerning history. We look at RJ very differently than people did in the 60s.

Thank you for bringing me up to speed Dan!

I meant to say before that I dig your profession! ;)

...& I didn't realise the date for your 'This is just mail art' was so soon, will try and get that out asap.

DVS: I put the article about Ultra's dying on My FB page this pm. There's a picture of her with Andy and Viva. UV was really a very interesting, very sexy and talented woman. Viva not so much. Andy? I still haven't made up my mind. I never met--in fact never heard of--Ray Johnson, the "Most Important Artist You Never Heard Of," until getting involved with mail art, but they both played the Zeitgeist well. It was a time when artists were recognized for their complete lack of congruence with the real world. At least Warhol learned how to make money at it.

Gina,
In reality--DKult reality, that is--DK is actually married to that charming forehead. But, just in case nobody has informed you, so are you.

Gosh, now they're saying KDJ is a Karen Eliot. KDJ is a real person. In terms of her recent disappearance, it coincided w/a woman crashing her car into a daycare center in Orlando, FL (yes, KDJ does live in Disneyland). KDJ was not the woman in the car crash.

BTW - Great stuff Dan posted in the RC Fan Club. RIP Ultra Violet.

p.s.  Gina--even if you never meet KDJ, don't believe the rumors that she doesn't exist. She most definately does and I have seen a picture of her forehead to prove it!!!

KDJ recently appeared on an episode of "Catfish". Turns out she was posing as "Mean Sheena" of the NLB to lure men into her web.  This entertained her from prison but when they all showed up at her release, all hell broke loose.  She regretted the NLB times as she sufferd verbal abuse, such as constantly being called a donkey,  wanker, monkey lover, etc.. She tried to get Rhonda Gutterslut in the band, but was shot down  because the NLB thought she was "a total goody two shoes".  A crash and burn was inevitable, but she is now back to her roots here at DKULT. She has spent many hours in the temple of purification.  Not only has she emergenced with a renewed sense of the DKULT mission, she has perfectly exfoliated skin!!

...& there could be a trash temple where pilgrims bring offerings!

Dan, actually my fella is pretty good at saving me things... a packaging brochure was on the table and my reaction was "Oooh... " He said "yeah I knew you'd love it, they were chucking it out at work" - I'm a low maintenance girl!

I did see a fella earlier on a building site with headphones and one of those hovering metal detectors - What an exciting hobby!
