The Peace Crane Project for Japan

THE ONE THOUSAND PEACE CRANE GOAL HAS BEEN REACHED AS OF 1/6/12. (PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MORE PEACE CRANES.)

Thank you to everyone who made peace cranes!

There's a story told in Japan that if you make a thousand origami Peace Cranes, you or someone you love will be healed. This group is for those who wish to make an origami Peace Crane which will then be sent to the Hiroshima Peace Museum.

A few people have sent collages with peace cranes as part of the collage. One of those people is George Grigoriadou from Greece. These are two of the four that she sent. I'll be posting the others soon.

Here's a photo of all the peace cranes that I've received as of today -- all of you artists are amazing!  Some of the folded paper cranes are as small as an inch. We've got more than 100 cranes, so on our way to our goal!

Making cranes today for the one-month anniversary. I'm using a NWF calendar from a prior year. Lovely bits of nature enclosed in these folds...

Peace.

A big thank you to Georgia and Wanda for the beautiful paper cranes they sent this week! In a note Wanda enclosed with her paper cranes, she mentioned that people at her university made 3,000 cranes that were sent to both a fundraising site and the Japanese consulate in Vancouver.

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to participate. I know that for people who've never made origami paper cranes, it can be a challenge - but hang in there!

Received this week more beautiful peace cranes from Ptrzia and Katerina!  The envelopes that they are coming in are all very interesting and unique as well.  Some people are producing peace crane stamps and other logos, I think I will try to scan people's envelopes along with some of the peace cranes before I send them off. The response has been really fantastic - keep them coming!

Dearest snow, I broke my finger on the same night that I was trying to learn how to make a paper crane from online instructions, then my computer broke down! Sometimes I think there is some malevolent spirit attending my efforts to reach beyond myself.

I went to the local university to use a computer there and some Japanese students were teaching people to make origami cranes> So I learned after all!
