What's your default? 7 Replies

Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

If beermats were postage exempt in the US, I'd be the most prolific bar-hopper in the US ... have a drink, collect the beermat, and move onto the next bar.

We call 'em beermats here in Canada, and all the posties that I know like their beer.  I'll give it a try.  Oh wait...  I don't have a beermat.  Gee, guess I'll have to go to Samz Pub tonight!

Yes a little crazy those would be postage exempt!

Oh. I hadn't realised that beermat was an English word and didn't travel across the pond. My apologies.

A beermat is a thick paper coaster placed under glasses of beer down the pub (I presume that you translate that as 'at the bar').

The argument I heard was a little mysterious. Apparently there's an archaic law that states that beer mats are post-exempt. I'm clueless as to why this may be, but Min tells me that the beermat she received did indeed travel free of charge

A beermat? The US folks ( a least me ) needs a translation. Is it a coaster you set your beer glass on? If so, why would they have free postage???

I just heard today from a work colleague that if you send a beermat in the post it's completely free of postal charge.

Mim, it was Min in my office who told me this today (you sat next to her at our wedding) - she received this news on the back of a beermat sent from Australia from her son. It arrived and no additional levy was placed on it.

Now I'm wondering

a) Is there any truth in this? Is it true that you can send a beer mat for free, and if so can it be modified in any way, thus saving ALL of us a little postage (see what I'm getting at here 365ers....? ;-)

b) Is this just a commonwealth (british owned countries) thing?

and of course...

c) what are we waiting for?!

FarStarr - Thanks for the card! I needed a day brightener, and it came in my box this morning. Yes, send a ball to camp. It's a cheap thrill! And college visits... been there ... done that... recently.  Keep calm and carry on. It can be fun! Enjoy summer.

Is that Boo who moved recently to Rockford Lane in Louisville?  I didn't see a label on the post.  The suspense is killing me!  :)  I mailed something to Boo last week, and I  know it will catch up with her, whatever address I used.  Just curious.

i agree with you entirely, postmuse!

systems are not bad, and people abiding by systems are not all "trapped."

however, if you do let yourself become trapped within the system, and feel obligated no matter what to abide by the system; you have become more machine than man. use the system, get from the system what is beneficial to you and your fellow man; but don't be a slave to the system. ;-D

Katerina.....Ahh......lovely sandpo!  I hope you enjoy the beach.  It's VERY hot and rainy here on the East Coast.

Dewi,  I hope we don't have to go through what you giys did.  No mail - for how long?  It must have been awful for everyone.  At least you were able to post on line, so we could enjoy your drawings!
