I'm running a mailart show with Westminster Libraries in London, for a display in Pimlico library from March 25, 2011, so the deadline for this call is March 11th. The works will be on the walls for 2 weeks or so.

What we want is postcard sized (up to A5 should be fine - feel free to interpret this as you wish) stories from mailartists, comics creators and anyone else who can tell a story. The works will go up on the walls of the library as a backdrop to talks by comics creators and artists, and I may even do a talk about mailart.

Ultimately, the idea is to produce a book of all the stories which will go on the shelves of Pimlico library, so your stories will be immortalised, but this isn't yet confirmed.

We'd love to get as many Little Big stories as possible, so if you intend to send us one, or want to swap some ideas, drop in and lets talk!

Ok here's the thing - we have about 20 pieces at the moment - the contributors are listed at http://myrealwall.blogspot.com/p/little-big-stories-pieces-received...

Should I post them on the net now or after the show?

Thanks for the tips guys! Martha, let's go down the pub with your trolley and my REAL wall and have some fun!

Openings, vernisages, are usually in commercial galleries and the gallery pays but for us poor mail artists that doesn't really go. What I do is to go to a nearby pub and each person pays for his or her drink/food. It works very well, just do not call it opening, that was my fault. We can invite people to meet at the show at certain time and stay there for about 1 hour or so and then we go to the pub. We call it a meeting. So do not worry Andy we can do this very casually the only thing is; we need to decide on a date.

Andy, have you posted the pieces you have received for "Little Big Stories" or are you waiting for the opening at the library?? Super curious to see what people have sent....mine should be in the mail next week!

That's what we do here, also, Val. Stand around and chat, drink some wine, have a bit of cheese. We can never see the art work for the people so we go back later to look at that.

How to manage 'openings'. In France they are called 'vernissages'. They involve, as do most things French, the consumption of substantial amounts of alcohol. All one has to do is stand quietly in a corner, have a few drinks and watch the (artistic) world go by. What could be more fun?

Regards, Val

I'm not great with openings - never know what to do. Tell you what Martha, if you can help come up with suggestions of how to do this best, I can certainly see what we can do. I think an opening would be great, but I'm just not good with the logistics of it. Help us out!

Andy and Elena, congratulations and all my best wishes for the future! As to the opening; is there a date for the show? I suppose the opening is up to the library. Anyhow we can have a Field Study opening later when you are back. When is that? it will be great to meet and I can take the Shopping Trolley Gallery. Let's fix a date soon so we can start to invite people.

Glad my card arrived safely.  I've passed the information about this to the local Illustrators' Society and to a couple of artist who do graphic novels. I hope they submit.
