An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. Let us know if we can help or look in to anything for you. We live in Berkeley, next to Oakland.

sad news arrived today:

Hello Ruud.  My aunt, Patricia M. Tavenner, was one of the early pioneers of stamp art.  I know she is well known with the old timers in the profession.  Anyway, she is dying of cancer and does not have family in the area.  We are planning to handle her affairs remotely and take a single trip to California when the time comes.  Patricia has an interesting old heavy cast-iron stamp art machine along with many other archives.  It would be helpful if someone in the California area could come look at these items to see what we can do with them when the time comes.  Do you know of any stamp art artists in the Oakland California area?  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

when you are interested, I'll send you the contact details.

Hello,
A visual catalog displaying the Gina Lotta Post Artistamp Museum's holdings inducted into the museum between November 2, 2011 to February 27, 2013 is now ready. This is Vol 3 in the series. Used as a reference guide for who is doing what in artistamps and/or for collecting...artists, designers, art teachers all glean new ideas from these works. And curators use these for quickly finding work while organizing exhibits. While at the book fair at MOMA NYC, New Yorkers bought for just this purpose.

Professional courtesy discounts on both paper ($55.00 future price) and downloadable ($9.99 future price) versions will end March 15th. *****If you order by tomorrow (Feb 28th) use FAST5 for another 5% off.  http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/ginnylloyd

Thanks to the generosity of all of the artists. Please feel free to pass this on.

Best,
Ginny

Hello,
I am requesting the community's (your) assistance.  Volume 3 catalog is in production. Please go to the http://artistampmuseum.blogspot.com  blog (not the networkblog version) and check any and all info re your submissions after September 11, 2011 for accuracy. Also need help with unknown or ???? items. If you have a change or update, post it in the comment section under the image. If corrections are posted on FB I may not find it in their crazy format. Please do this by Tuesday February 26th.

Thanks in advance. Ginny
