"Objects of Interest" Art Distribution Box::: Call for Contributions

Hello IUOMA compatriots! I am launching a community facing art project here in Albuquerque, NM USA and I'm asking for your participation. The "Objects of Interest" is a repurposed newspaper vending box, that I am using as a free art distribution point. My idea is to stock the box with free art that the general public can take, while also encouraging folks to leave art for others to enjoy. The box will go public in November 2026. I am hoping that our online / mail art community here will send art for me to distribute in the box.

If you are interested, please send your art in an envelope to me (address at the bottom of this post.) This does not have to be mail art specific, but anything you'd like to share with the Albuquerque audience. Postcards, zines, anything goes. Please write your name on the back of the piece unless you want to remain anonymous. I will share photos here of everything I receive.

Hi Nick! I got your postcard, Thanks. I will send a small selection of "cheap art" for your project. I suppose "cheap art" is not really a thing outside of puppeteering circles....the idea was coined by Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet Theatre, with the idea that art should not exist in museums and cost thousands of dollars, but should be cheap or free.  When they traveled they regularly sold prints and paintings for $2-10.  Anyway. I'm new here, but in no way new to art-making.  I'll send some stuff.  Ruby

hi hick. tell us a bit about the places you mount the box and the stories behind some works "donated" through this project. maybe a link to further documentation? we do the same with the eternal archive of MUARCO.ORG in various places in europe... maybe a swap of pieces? best juan

Hello Juan, The box will be placed on a back patio of a cafe / brewery in downtown Albuquerque. The location is the de facto gathering place for artists of all kinds in our city. The content to be share will be zines, postcards, small prints, small object d'art. Aside from the photos of the box itself, I have no further documentation, but will maintain a presence via my Instagram account as items come and go. I hope this helps.
