Here is how these ideas are connected and what lies behind them:

Why does everyone want the same shoes?

In modern society, the desire for the same shoes (either literally, as a popular fashion brand, or metaphorically, as the same lifestyle) is rarely a product of our actual needs. Most often, it is a matter of two psychological phenomena:

Herd psychology and status: Owning the same shoes that everyone else wants provides a sense of belonging and social status. Shoes are a symbol of "where we stand in life."

The illusion of an easy path: When we see someone successful or happy, we want their "shoes," believing that if we put them on, we will easily walk through life just like them. We forget what Depeche Mode tells us: before you judge or long for someone else's life, you must walk through the same "misery and stone" that person has passed through.

Cinderella Syndrome: The longing for salvation

The term "Cinderella complex" was coined by therapist Colette Dowling in the 1980s. It describes an unconscious desire (mainly in women, though it occurs in everyone) to be saved by someone else.

In the fairy tale, Cinderella does not change her own destiny; her fate changes when she perfectly fits the glass slipper brought to her by the prince.

If everyone wants the "same shoes," perhaps they are actually looking for that one, magical, "perfect shoe" – a symbol of a quick fix that will save them from the daily struggle and take them to an ideal life.

Do childhood stories become rooted in our character?

Yes, and much deeper than we think. Psychologists like Carl Jung explained that fairy tales are actually maps of the human psyche.

First models of the world: As children, we do not understand abstract concepts like justice, cruelty, love, or betrayal. Fairy tales materialize these concepts for us. Through them, we learn what is "good" and what is "evil."

Hidden scripts: If we are told as children that hard work and patience (as with Cinderella) eventually bring a reward without our active rebellion, we can translate that passive pattern into our adult character. We become people who wait for someone to notice their effort, instead of fighting for themselves.

The song's warning: The song "Walking in My Shoes" reminds us of a harsh reality that is the opposite of fairy tales. In life, there are no fairies and wizards to make our steps easier. Everyone carries their own burden, and someone else's shoes are often too heavy, pinch too much, and are full of someone else's scars.

In the end, the yearning to wear someone else's or the "same" shoes is an attempt to escape our own path. But true maturity happens only when we accept our own old, worn-out, and dusty shoes, because they are the only ones tailored

to our measure.

Why does everyone want the same shoes?

Maybe the Cinderella syndrome?

Do childhood stories truly take root in our character?

P.S. Inspired by the song 'Walking in My Shoes' by Depeche Mode'...

I'm not exactly a passionate fan of the band Queen, but this musical track is masterful. (Although, I must admit Freddie is quite charismatic, especially in his phase with Montserrat Caballé.)
