I would like to hear more about what Fike says. I think AI 'art' is almost always not art. illustration probably, but as art it doesnt look good, is not an exhibition of skill, patience, inspiration etc. Generated images kind of have nothing going for them.

that's not to say that generated images couldnt be used by some clever person in a way that undermines your expectations or something like that. creative misuse might be a path here. but typing a prompt and even guiding the robot toward an output you have in your mind is not valid. as illustration it passes I suppose, but as an elevated expression it does not.

as far as collage goes, that can be an elevated expression, of course. it can also be at the level of illustration, which is good in itself. I think the form can be pushed though. I think it can be pushed a lot. there is a lot of unexplored territory in collage.  I personally dont think that collage in its basic form often breaks through into that higher territory, simply because collage has been around a while. this is an opinion, of course. I just enjoy seeing people take it new places.

I haven't, but I would be interested in hearing someone out about their differing perspective on it.

I think the main difference for me is that collage still takes some level of resourcefulness, creativity, and understanding of composition, color theory, artistic skill, etc. to accomplish, whereas asking AI to make something for you takes very little of all that. Ownership of art is definitely a huge debate that I don't engage with much beyond just a general dislike of AI in art, so I don't have a very solid concept of it either lol. Thanks for commenting.

Have you met my buddy Fike he may challenge the concept a bit. Certainly has had me reframe /change my perspective for certain case use...

I love the layout and execution some would argue collage art or any use of someone else's creation is equal to AI use as it's not yours. I would disagree unless it's a direct ripoff at a profit or corporation exploiting artists without paying the original designer etc...Owner ship of art etc is one of those philosophical debates that I have never had a solid concept of.  /Ramble ramble thank you for sharing.
