MANHOLE COVER LOVERS

There must be billions of them in the world. We pass them every day. We walk on them. We do not take any notice of them. They are heavy, and usually made of cast iron. They come in many different shapes, sizes and patterns. Look, and you will find them everywhere.

What are they? MANHOLE COVERS, that provide access to local service systems such as water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications.

Post photos of any interesting ones you find here.

One of the covers from Gdańsk, shown below, commemorates the 7th National Pilgrimage of Water Supply, Sewage, Municipal Services, and Environmental Protection Workers to Jasna Góra (October 11-12, 1997), in Częstochowa, where the monastery houses a painting of the Virgin Mary with Child, which is particularly venerated by Catholics in Poland.

FORMULA 1 MOTOR RACING NEWS FROM THE BBC: "Norris tops session disrupted by loose manhole cover"

"In a session interrupted and then curtailed by a loose manhole cover...The loose manhole cover could mean a long night for race officials....

The site was inspected and the session restarted after a 15-minute delay, with governing body the FIA saying it believed the cover was "in a suitable condition to resume the session". But officials who had stayed at the location to monitor the situation saw the cover moving as cars passed over it when the session resumed and the red flag was thrown again.

Two manhole covers in Den Haag (The Hague, Netherlands).

The municipal bird of The Hague is the Ooievaar = Stork, as you can see on these manhole covers, too.
