These are the postal rates in the Netherlands starting from januari 2009. Yes, again they raised the rates. Do you have the rates from your country nearby? Could you post them here?

I am currently visiting Austria, and the woman at the post office tried to tell me that my postcards to Europe were going to cost €1.30 each ! I bought the stamps, and high-tailed it to a computer to look up the local rates. Sure enough, for postcards/letters under 20 grams it's € 0.65 for Europe, € 1.40 for World, while for letters between 20 and 50 grams, it's € 1.30 for Europe, € 2.05 for World. The world rate in both cases seems very high. The postage in Belgium seemed quite expensive as well, though not as bad as Austria! In Belgium they also have a 'minimum size' that can be rather inconvenient.

In the UK, international postcards cost 67p, while postcards to Europe cost 60p. As everything other than postcards is done by weight in the UK, there are a wide variety of prices. (see airmail chart: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400036&mediaI... ) However, this means that when you send crazy shaped things like paper sculptures (http://www.thisisart.ca/?p=724) , they get sent for very little money. :)

I'm very sad to hear about the new irregular oversize charge in Canada. Sigh.

27.12.14 Dare Ruud Janssen, Hopefully, someone here will post the present U.S. Postal Rates (should that actually prove to be helpful)...it seems that I am forever relearning & trying to memorize the ever-changing current price of postage for here & there...about all I have to offer is  a whimper & a few tears (in memory of "the way things used to be").  ......but then,  the situation also offers the opportunity to sing the praises of the ever insightful & prophetic I.O.U.M.A..... Twenty-five years  (& plus now) of thoughtful, creative, convenient & economic sharing....(thanks to Ruud Janssen!!!) All best you. Richard C.

in italy postal rates raised from december 1st 2014

http://www.poste.it/postali/nuove_condizioni_economiche_2014.shtml

for exemple an envelope to Europe weight up to 20 gr.  costs from € 0,85 to € 0,95

envelope or postcard 20 gr.  from italy to usa € 2,30

in Italy.....

Why do the postal rates in other European Union countries seem so high?

It seems that Germany many have the lowest rates.

In Greece, ALL outside-the-country mail up to 20grams is 0.90 euro

(no matter if it goes to Italy , USA, or Australia!). Postcards are 0.80.

Domestic mail is still only 0.72 euro....

but let's see what might happen in the New Year 2015!

Recently read. France:18 10^9 letters in 2008, 13 projected for 2015, 9 projected in 6 years. Therefore (!) an average 7% increase in postal rates, the highest ever, is announced for January 1, 2015. The priority (red) stamp) will increase from Euro0.66 to 0.76, the green stamp from Euro0.61 to 0.68.

bought some postage for stock (1,05 international) which will cost 10 cents more in a few days......

Tarifs postaux 1849 - 2014

In Russia, postal tariffs are steadily increased twice a year, in late autumn and mid-summer, year after year. It is a market economy; everyone has memorised the term and got used to it. The trend is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.
