I may be violating a IUOMA policy here but I think it's important for people to realize that the forces of darkness are once again trying to privatize our Postal System, widely regarded as one of America's proudest achievements for a wide variety of reasons.

Check out this paper from In The Public Interest and then consider writing a letter to these Senators: Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Doug Jones (D-AL), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Gary Peters (D-MI), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Tina Smith (D-MN), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Mark Warner (D-VA), and Roger Wicker (R-MS) urging them to vote YES on H.R. 6800.

Apologies for breaking the law but this is a time to do something to save our Postal System.

Apologies also if this is a redundant plea.

Seems important enough to repeat....

your friend, Dave

Isn't it pretty to think so, BG?

Actually DeJoy (Pynchonesque name) was born in Brooklyn and things went south from there. He made his money doing logistical analysis for USPS and the DOD but the expertise he brings to the job will be used for evil purposes. That much is dependable.

14.08.20 Dare Mister David Stafford, ( ... I'm sorry about the previous post. Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing--- I am a first-class "luddite".)  ....I'll try to start again...your post: "Saving the US Postal System"  is perhaps one of the most important 'posts' ever offered  here. (especially for we "Merry Can" mail artists). This is "Serious Business" for Mail Art. I'm not much of valid historian but Ben Franklin (prime source for the creation of the U.S. Post Office) was (is) a great American.[ How do I know?---even I have some vague idea of who he was & what he did ]---- Whereas my fellow Nawf Karoleankneeonion D. J. DeJoy doesn't even know the difference between Pat Boone & Little Richard.  SinCelery, Richard Canard

Late breaking news:

Yeah, DeJoy is the right verb here.

I would imagine how many are sounding off about what to do with the USPS having viewed what has happened in the UK, the Netherlands and elsewhere to ensure their plan goes better.  The "lining of the pockets" will still occur, but appearances will be designed to deceive as much as possible.  With everything else going on in America, there are many other "plans" that are being managed, coordinated, and given a much deeper treatment than mere "Public Relations" can describe.

What did anyone expect when the head of the USPS was recently replaced?  Today's report of Maine postmasters telling staff to prioritize Amazon packages to the detriment of first class mail is the tip of the iceberg revealing itself.

It's safe to say that "connected" Postmaster General Louis DeJoy will not bring joy to all the postal workers and users of the postal system.

Thank you, Jennifer. I had no idea. I'm not sure I understand how it works in the UK. Further study is required. However, we seem to be at the mercy of capital who, once they set their sights on a lucrative venture, are bound to unravel systems that served the wider public interest.

Alan,

thank you for that info. This explains why I haven't gotten any mail art from the UK lately. (or not).

Nancy,

Susan Collins played an instrumental role in opening up the privatization conversation. Sigh.
