Today, on learning I have no cell phone, Eyemart said "Then maybe you can find the last pay phone in America and call us to find out if your glasses are ready!"

Yes, the experience I have as a non cell (as opposed to incel) is similar to Kevin McCarthy's in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (or perhaps Rowdy Roddy Piper in "They Live.") Walking down Castro Street in Mountain View, in the heart of Silicon Valley, everyone is fiddling away on their phones and I start to see them in a sort of living diorama, tool-using chimps, fascinated, mesmerized, completely unaware of their self-absorption. It's strange. You can't run screaming. You don't have to. I already wear the cloak of invisibility that age affords but now I'm doubly unseen. In a way, it's like a super power.

Thanks too (esp. for the laugh) from another corner of the no-cell-phone club. It's like island life, except people are all around. They're just not paying attention. This is life on earth now, folks. Sad. But I'm going to try that particular jello.
