New School Vispo by Annette Kesterson (San Francisco, California, USA)

Annette - 8.28.2016 - 1

Mail art by IUOMA member Annette Kesterson (San Francisco, California, USA)

August 28, 2016 - I certainly have come to look forward to dispatches from correspondent Annette Kesterson in San Francisco. Along with work received from Joey Patrickt in Oakland, I believe – thanks to these artists – I am able to provide a look at trends and evolutions in a vital cultural area of the USA.

After some soul-searching, I will not include this beautiful piece by Annette in the Karnival of Trash exhibition; this just does not fit the Trashpo definition. Categories matter little as long as this breath-taking vispo (or at least text-centered composition) can be shared with others. The piece is an aesthetic immersion into text and the art/practice of writing.

I gather Annette Kesterson is a librarian and educator. Here we have a possibly new mail art genre: the back-to-school missive.

Deepest thanks to Annette for another stunning piece!

I've been wrong before. I hope Annette will visit and clear this up. I dare not speculate more.

29.08.16 Dare De Villo Sloan & Ms. Annette Kesterson, ...well, I just don' get it.  I thought this was some sort of rubber stamped item. It looked to me like an acorn sitting atop a cupcake & personalized for someone with the initials "I. N. K."  ....not to mention, even I have been to the library before.  Sincerely, Richard Canard

Thanks Debra & Toni - glad you like it, a very pleasing image indeed. Annette usually does collage as far as I can recall. She certainly has a flair for drawing. And she is a librarian.

I love the ink bottle and the back to school greeting.

Great work.
