A most delicate treasure arrived in Thessaloniki today. It is a double page/ three-fold book of Alfonso Filieri's "ITACA".
Words come difficult to describe this masterpiece in color, texture, and feelings of the spirit.
Rich blue opens to even richer green and then an mountain/island of white, with flower petals!
and, yes, a bookmark, too.
The opening green page contains the poetic text
(a humble translation from the Italilan)
"Goodnight, my Queen
all immortal boredom
of Mannerism
childhood dreams
to heaven...
using your voice
on a raft of paper
cotton
glue
color
wax"
Alfonso takes us on his journey, since 2001, across seas of blues and greens.
Like Ulysses, we sail across these seas of rich color and waves of wax...
Text and Images by Alfonso Filieri
the quest is a simple cotton book,
a work 9 x 23 cm (4 x 9 in)
and a bookmark
"a sign of a departure
a detachment
to another island"
The image was realized with paper
making a veil painting
and petals of flowers.
ROMA 2001
Flower petal encased in wax on paper, transluscent and wondrous to the touch!
The color is BLUE! the sea? The waves? The galaxy? The universe?
The color is deep sea green...and we are on a journey with Alfonso
to arrive at ITACA is our ultimate goal, ...but let us not hurry that journey!
Grazie Alfonso!
