The Distant Drummer from South Africa arrives in Greece

Remember those "Women Who Carry the World"? The Women Who Up Hold the World?
Remember the Bhubesi Women that entered our world thanks to the creative genius of Cheryl Penn?
Ah, now they are traveling and arriving at various destinations.
I have been honored with the presence, and the present, of "The Distant Drummer":…

Bits and pieces from Roland Halbritter ...

... with an unusual envelope: The bits are really really tiny, and it must have taken him an hour to cut them out. Some are definitely parts of a photo or card, and others look abstract, at least in how he chose to cut them. It might be a puzzle, and I'll have a good time finding out. Thank you,… Continue

Three is Company AGAIN from Marie Wintzer, Japan

Conceptually its quite difficult to portray the words we cant say – without being obvious.  Once again though,  Marie has succeeded in subtly expressing an idea. This time, her concept is The Words Encaged.  Those words we want to express, but never do.

The things left unsaid. Circumstances that don’t allow the verbal expression of what we would dearly love to… Continue

Mensch werden is eine kunst.

Sprung from the head of Zeus! Yet again. Another sterling wunderwerk from Skybridge Studios arrived yesterday. Dressed in an understated gold lame envelope festooned with vintage southwestern stamps, this four panel folding book has kind of a hayseed feeling about it. For one, SB has been pushing the envelope of their printer again: all of the text is printed on thin wafers of wood. I’m guessing mahoghany veneer but I could be dead wrong. Anyhow this rusticity is lightly echoed in the nine…

From Deanna Fountain, California

Deanna says i am the reason she found IUOMA. Have no idea how it happened. Maybe she found my blog and from there she found IUOMA. I hope i am not missing some detail from my mind.  However we are mail friends and she sent me this lovely work with 100% recycle materials. Lettersize and wrap on newspaper and transparent tape all over. So well wrap i could fill her effort and goodwill when sending it.  Sometimes you can see the beauty of the soul traspassing the beauty of the work of art.  Thank… Continue

Svenja Wahl and Brilliant Conceptual Mail Art

I sometimes get in the habit of blogging multiple pieces of mail art due to time constraints and volume, even though many of the works of art deserve their own independent posting. One of those amazing pieces, that I didn't want folks to miss, was a recent gift from Svenja Wahl that REALLY MADE MY DAY!!

If you are looking at the photo of Svenja's envelope art…

Hallowe'en Loot! Documented on All Soul's Day...

If mail art came in a candy sack, I would be dragging my haul along the ground back to my lair so I could roll around in all my sweets!  As it is, I got some really SWEET mail art in celebration of All Hallow's Eve--the day that marks the thinnest veil between this world and the other where our forebears ethereally mingle. Just look at this stash:

This is truly some…

Gem from Diane Keys

This little packet sat on the table for 24 hours - an eternity - staring and tempting at each pass by.

A friend suggested that it NEVER be opened, 'it is perfect as it is'. I reached for the scissors and carefully cut open the edge without stitching. Diane, it is no surprise you are the reigning queen of trashpo. Here is a peek into this marvel. thanks.…

Let's set the pace with a bit of ouzo from the Greek Island Mytilene that arrived here via Santa Fe, New Mexico, from David Stafford. Just to cheer us up amidst all the "Greek turmoil" ( where? when?, whaaaat?) David with his great humor created a three-fold card that dances with fun:…
