Mail-Artist since:
Hmmm, been doin' weird things with mail since the early 70s, but only with friends/family until 1994.

Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
The usual reasons: it's truly democratic (if you ignore the poor folks who don't have mail service) and it is NECESSARY for my soul to create/share art in such a fashion. I can't quite put a finger on why I went from collecting stamps to making my own stamps when in my early teens thinking I was the only weirdo on the planet to do such a thing.

Hey Brad, Thanks for the Mail Art - I posted it on the blog: Heebee Jeebeeland and wrote some nonsense regarding it. Thanks very much - I like your sense of humor. Something will be on it's way to you from the 4th Dimension very soon. See ya in the Mail!
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Great humor, Brad!
    I get the message :-)
Ya got more humor in Deadwood City than in awl of...the world!
Thanks , this came in today's mail and really put a smile on my face!

    Hey Brad!

Yeah, I know what you mean about my not being a member of the AS group. If it hadn't been for alot of arm twisting by Ruud years ago, I probably wouldn't have joined this whole web site. I'm just not much of a "joiner," if you know what I mean. But maybe one of these days I'll join the artistamp group.

Anyway, I'm glad that you received the watercolor. Although you may be much too kind about the quality as it's been eight years since I touched those brushes of mine. So as you can imagine, it's basically starting all over again. Who knows?!? One of these days I might get one right! :^)

Thanks again, Brad, and happy creating!

thanks for the howdy, brad! deadwood, south dakota? cool...really nice job on the self portrait stamp! a digital graphics fiend curious about your process...
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Greetings from the "Queen"!
Sorry, Brad, 'could not resist after seeing your great artistamps,
yours being amazing in technique! How do you do them?
Mine are really "cut and paste"...by hand, with scissors and glue
    no fancy electronic effects here...sigh.

  • sharon kennick

thanks for the explanation, brad. i like the detail you were able to achieve by combining layers. drawing with a mouse is the bane of my digital existence right now, and i am presently lusting after a stylus...what software package are you running? i'm working in a very old "paintshop pro 9." which is antiquated, but i know my way around in it, and it still meets both professional and recreational needs.

i've seen that "fluxus" word alot in here, and am wondering what it's about. "flux" is the stuff i solder with, but "fluxus?" i am clueless!

for cutting, i'm using a scissors with a stamp/deckled blade, and it works okay on onesies, but i would like to be able to send out full sheets. i've considered pulling out the sewing machine to perforate them, but that just seems like too much work while i'm ill. maybe in a couple of days. of course, the best of all worlds would be to find an antique perforator in working condition in some local junk shop...hmmm. i guess i've been bitten by the faux postage bug pretty bad; talking about buying a perforator, already!

i look forward to receiving those samples! how kind of you! i will dig around in the drawers and computer files for backgrounds and flourishes or anything else you might be interested in for exchange. i'm thinking immediately of a three-layered image that creates marbling. each b&w layer is independently colored and then stacked in a specific order and merged. will dig around for it and see how it works in a stamp before sending it on.

    thanks for the speedy reply!
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Thanks Brad...very professional stamp making going on in Deadwood!
You will see that I perforate using a simple sewing copy wheel...found a couple in the Greek market for less than 1 EURO. Now, then, something in the mail to you by Monday.
    Have a nice weekend,
    Katerina

still under the weather, and slow in getting back to folks...thanks for directing me to "wicki" for a rather long, but interesting explanation of "fluxus art," and the rather interesting realization that it's my favorite genre to work in.

perforator lust - LOL! in the music world they call it "gear acquisition syndrome," or GAS for short! i have a bit of both. okay - alot!

thanks for the offer to perforate! as soon as i am ready for mass perforations, i will take you up on it!

good sunday to you and yours.

Hi Bradford--thanks for being a friend. I enjoyed your stamps-very creative.

I'll be slow to respond via mail right now, but do send me mail art. My current interest is using stitchery for mark making on collage. It's a slow process.

  • stan askew

    hello, Bradford ~

yes ... i like to mix photos with collage as well as simply using collage elements from various vintage magazines which i tend to collect when i find ones i like. will put something in the mail to you before week's end.
