Even though it makes sense that we can look on each others profiles, you may want to add your address here and any blogs or other accounts you want highlighted. This way it's in a closed environment and we all get to share.

What's your default? 7 Replies

Because my friend Matt asked me this the other night, I had to think about it. His is painting a blue sky and some clouds, then he waits to see if anything more comes. His skull for Skull Appreciation Day was just the blue sky & clouds cause…Continue

Who will you send  your first piece of mail to? I've been thinking about this a lot. Will it be someone in this group? Will it be one of the many mail artists I've exchanged MA with over the years? Will it be one of my letter writing friends, or my…Continue

Significant dates for the diary (some might say...) 41 Replies

McFloozy mentioned Quack Day in February and I had a message from Valentine Mark Hermann telling me of an anniversary in February. I figured that it would be best to put all the dates in one discussion, so anyone could contribute and we could all…Continue

i think my point was totally missed...

i am not talking about critiques - i will not do that with mailart...

i do however only comment on what really grabs me or i received...

something that interests me but i am not in love with - i put a "reaction" because I know that those that post their art always need support & any support is better than no support...

I do not feel like I'm "critique" someones mail art when I leave a comment. I try to focus on some aspect of their art that I like and make a positive comment. One of the things like about this project is there are so many different styles, I find that inspiring. I agree with Boo on this, the wider the range, better for everybody.

I have not been around as long as most but an other Mail Art maximum "senders receive" holds up here. I have found that the more comments I make the more I receive. So I am going to make an effort to comment more and with more variety.

Also I would like to say if you have mailart that you hesitate to send, send it to me. All mail is loved and well cared for here at Merdocs Robotics

Love it when we hit on a topic that generates discussion!

I think it's lovely when people comment, but comments are disconnected from my making or posting mailart. Historically, it's antithetical to the egalitarianism of mailart to "critique" somebody else's work. Museum's judge; mailartists welcome. Another trustworthy element in mail art since its inception is that everything received is part of the show. God knows those ugly-ass rabbits of Ray Johnson's didn't please everybody. But it was his vision, and so we honor his bunnies, just as we know our vision is honored by other mail artists. The wider the range of topics, themes, opinions, skill levels, materials, and stages of dress, the better for everybody.

Interesting posts. I have to say I got lazy about posting my mailart because it is a fair amount of effort and when no one comments it seems like my time could be better spent by making art rather than posting that that maybe no one sees....I have still been doing the 365 but haven't been posting it. I agree with psmith and sue bowen...I think posting comments encourages people to post their work.

I try to comment every day on as many posts as possible. I feel bad that so many artists who started out on Dec. 1 have dropped by the wayside, so I think commenting on posts is a way to encourage everyone to stick with us. And I always appreciate the comments left on my posts. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to leave a comment.

Putting my money where my mouth is & will try to double up on my comments.  I usually do coffee & review most weekdays & a little more later in the day.  Paula must rise earlier than I do, because I am usually right behind her. ;-)  Maybe I will shake it up a little and start from the bottom or middle, and perhaps reach a different group of people.

I agree with Sue comments are nice but also agree with Poison Label. Having a 120 posts and only 20 comments, you are right that is no fun. I try to comments on posts everyday, maybe we could all bump up our comments a bit.
