Comment by prettylily on April 13, 2011 at 12:24pm: Sewing is a beneficial skill. You learn to design, measure, make patterns, construction, etc. and those are skills that translate well into life. My brother has a couple of sewing machines too. Even my Dad could sew. At the very least they learn about mechanics.

Yesterday, I was unsure if my lightweight, inexpensive, machine could handle canvas that was painted and collaged on, but it did great!

More sewing in my future with mail art though. What luck to take it out of it's case and find it threaded and waiting. Only problem I had was that I couldn't get it to run. I found it helps if the foot pedal is plugged in. I felt so dumb! duh?
