For people who read and enjoy good literature--literary classics or literary contemporary and like to make art about it. Using literature as inspiration for our art. Also for people interested in writing letters about literature. This is also a meeting place for The New Arzamas Literary Circle, which is dedicated to writing creative letters on literary topics.

One of a set of cards made while contemplating the poet Theodore Roethke. On November 12, Roethke suffered the first of what was to be many mental episodes. It happened in the cold Michigan woods, and he described the experience as having a "secret" revealed to him, which he said was the secret of "Nijinsky." Nijinsky was a famous ballet dancer who was institutionalized for schizophrenia. With your permission, I'd like to post your artwork at my blog: The Letter Project. I'm also looking for letters about literature and creativity. All works from the blog have gone through the postal system.

On the poem that was inspired by the visual art:
First draft with corrections in red and comments by David Stone (we exchanged during 2 weeks on the text!)
and final version:
EMILE ZOLA’s death was NOT accidental; he was MURDERED !!!
I am a bit in shock and am viewing a late night documentary on the 3d chain of French TV on Emile Zola.
(L’ombre d’un doute)
His accidental death seems to be a murder, plotted by the army and the ruling class because of the defense of Zola of the Jews and Dreyfus. His famous letter J’ACCUSE was the last straw.
The murder plot was simpl...
e: blocking the chimney, so the couple got asphyxiated. He died because he was on the floor, his wife survived.
One of the murderers confessed to a friend and this friend confessed only after that guy died. Since 1953 a journalist of the newspaper Liberation (Jean Bedel) has been investigating this, which results now in 2012 in a documentary that makes me cry and cry again!

Thanks Rebecca, I am not that suprised that defending Blake got you into trouble, shows only how conservative, read this as reactionary pigs, some, read this as most, our teachers were, are and will be.
That is why William B will appeal to all critical thinkers and viewers in the future as well!
If you watch a show like The Tudors with an open mind you realize what a bunch of murderous tugs the royal family was. Am still puzzled they are so popular. To paraphrase the queen in Alice in Wonderland: OFF WITH THEIR HEADS (LoL but a bit green)
So much from Guido the other day and all splendid and just right for me! Not sure if Guido knew I was thinking about Blake when I sent him the tree etc that this is in response to, but if not certainly synchronicity at work! When I was at Uni I got in to trouble in an Art History class when I defended Blake over the teacher's preferred artist as 'the most significant' of a particular period. I think it's that marriage of words and images, for me. As well as the above original, Guido sent me a copy of Friour Editions 2012 Present. Although I follow Guido's collages on IUOMA, having them altogether, to hold, to think about is even better. My political son will love this edition. The original Guido envelope is entitled, ' A Walk in the Forest'. Beautiful I love the winking eye, especially. I found it hard to decide where to post this all as Guido straddles so many groups!
