IUOMA novel

I am sending a book off and each person that recieves it will add one page to the story then they pass it on to the next person. Once you have sent it on please note so on this group so that the book never goes back to the same person twice.

Have no fear, dear Rod!
Nikoltsou has the first 39 pages scanned,
but kept safe as not to reveal the story :-)
Really some great stuff in the Novel!

Also, as each person writes and contributes to the Novel,
we should each keep a copy of our own page/pages, be that
scanned or photocopied or photographed. Just in case it gets
lost in the mail.

The Novel left Greece on November 18th, a.m. at the
university post office. Now we have to be patient to see
how long it will take for overseas air mail to get it to its
next destination!

I was not able to send it "express" or "registered" mail, as
it would have been very expensive. But I was assured that
as a small "packet" it would arrive in a "week-to-10-days".
We are working with postal systems....and hoping for the best.

...and if there is no news on Monday, I shall begin to really get worried.

It might be an idea for who ever has the novel to scan it all in and hold the scan... because I am really worried that the book will become lost in the post as has happened too often before to similar projects. In 1976 I did a mail art project to check on the reliability of the mail and it seemed that it was about 80% reliable, it's all in my book Mail Art Project '76 (I doubt whether any copies are still available). It certainly has not improved since the 70s, a postcard I sent to Amsterdam recently took 12 days to traverse the 250 kilometers.
So please participants, keep Alex constantly updated on the novel's progress.

I completely agree with your proposal Alex.

To summarise what Alex has said...when the book is full start a second book and send on both books.

Another reason not to actually read the novel in transit is that it will be vastly different by the time it reaches you.

That is a wonderful suggestion Alex. Really nice. And well said.

well well well people lost of stuff to ponder on , i agree with Rod i whole heartedly support anyone who wants to start their own novel of course start a seperate group for it and dont go trying to plug your novel on this group but what i liked so much about this artistic collective was the freedom, trust and general mutual apreciation for this art form , i dont not feel that preposals are appropriate for this project i am quite happy for whoever gets the novel next to add to it whatever they want , may i suggest that once to book is full whoever has it at that point purchases another similar book to carry on the story in a second volume then both books should be posted off to each person every time they are sent on this way everyone will get to participate and the same story keeps going. I hope everyone is happy with my suggestions

thanks

p.s applogies for poor grammar and puncuation im dyslexic

thanks again people

"apoilers"? Ya know what I mean: "spoilers"...it would be nice NOT to
see what is on the first 39 pages.
Alex, what do you think about it?

THIS particular NOVEL was begun by Alex Jones and a few members who joined the NOVEL group back on January 30. 2009. When I received the NOVEl, the first thing I did was to look at the first posts here at NOVEL group. I discovered that there were "old" members(since February!) who had not written in the NOVEL. Actually, of the first 15 "old" members, 12 had already written, so I sent it on to one in their midst who had not gotten the NOVEL, even though was a member of the NOVEL group since Feb.17th!

There probably is no "law" in such a send-on project, that states that it must go in order of sign-up membership, but, still, out of courtesy to those who have been waiting sooooooooo long, it is good to check the first comments here and see if there is an "oldie-but-goodie" member you'd like to send it to who has been waiting so long for it.

I had originally thought about it being in Greece, thus in Europe, to send it throughout Europe before sending it across the Big Pond. But I changed my mind...as for the NOVEL to hop across the Atlantic, maybe even across the Pacific, down also to South America, etc., should "add" to the adventure in the NOVEL itself!

As for the story-line....the element of surprise in reading what has already been contributed, is, I think, also an element of discovery and then sponataeous creative thought to continue. To "publish" the already written pages would sort of pull the cat-out-of-the-bag . The fun of getting the NOVEL in the mail was the anticipation that came in opening the package, removing the slip-cover, and then spending some quiet hours reading the "story" without having seen "apoilers" on the internet!

If indeed this particular book, this particular NOVEL will still have to go to all the new 63 members...a week AT THE LEAST betwen writers...
then so be it. That's plus or minus 63 weeks (52 weeks to a year)...by 2011 some will have waited a looooong time. But I can truly say:
IT IS WELL WORTH THE WAIT!
