In critical theory, the written word of an author or poet transforms and becomes the ultimate "property" of the reader (just like how the artist must relinquish his/her right to define how the viewer of their artwork interprets the piece). So if you appreciated it, and liked it...that is a bonus for me!! In fact, by your description, it sounds very much like you got the "gist" of its meaning. It was mostly intended to be humorous.
