Send A Message Of Caring - Make A Trashpo Boekie

Yes, the title is so true.  Trashpo boekies are made with loving hands; by people who love to share.  They are unique, creative, tiny works of art.  Little bits of intriguing scraps, found, sorted, painted, and given a new life when the scraps are bound together.  There is mystery, drama, wonder, fun, and much more, to enjoy in these tiny booklets.  The paper/items included have come into the posession of the artists in random ways, but they are not randomly assembled.  They are prepared with a thoughtfulness that shines through each creation.

They could have easly been made into other mail art pieces, but the makers chose the avenue of the Trashpo Boekie.  It is difficult to display their beauty in photos.  You have to use you imagination and think about the textures, papers, etc.  Please take a peek inside two recent additions.

The first is from Alicia Starr.  It begins with  a recycled piece of plastic.  Wonder of wonders - it arrived intact.  Alicia used various found bits in her delightful creation.  Each page is a small collage of images and textures.

This one is from Katerina.  She combined handpainted papers with texture and transparancy.  Her method created a different illusion of mystery.  What lies underneath?  Katerina also recycled a scrap (or two that)  I had recycled to her.  We now have a circle of Trashpo.  I love overlapping papers in both of these books.  I find them both very appealing.

These are just wee peeks inside the books. I feel very lucky to have them in my posession and lucky that I have Trashpo friend to make them for me.  They are readable, touchable, poetry.  Read them with your eyes open or shut.

Thank you both, Alicia & Katerina!

Fantastic blog! What a joy to look at these. I think the beauty of trashbooks is they are raw and ripped from the creator's 'real life'--intuitive rather than cerebral. These sing!!

What a beautiful commentary, PrettyLily! Thank you so much! And I like the phrase you used: "circle of trashpo". This is what happens, we recycle to one who then recycles to another and/or back again, and the circle continues! Alicia's Starr's boekie is Fantastic! And it is true that trashpo boekies cannot easily be scanned or photogrphed...they must be felt.."with eyes open...or closed!" xxx
