Nice try to "put out a fire" DK. But the pudding is in the proof: KDJ is a NO SHOW on Fanzine Day. MIA again. Fans disappointed again.
We have a ton of great DKult marketing materials that could easily be printed into brochures & posters. Since every day trash people go out into the streets to gather material, it would be really easy to add "product placement" to the routine - like Missionaries.
I would love to be able to print up a bunch of stuff like that. I can honestly say that finding those little things posted on bulletin boards and a laundromat in particular, completely changed my life, as did the little ad I saw in the paper asking for mail art submissions. It gave a link to look up what mail art was.
Below is a piece that missed the fanzine deadline. It has been completely approved by KDJ. She hopes getting her success story out there can inspire others struggling with their own inner demons and demonettes.
Blaster Al circulated the endless pamphlets everywhere, named by JMB "tacky little pamphlets."
It would be - you'd make sure to slip copies of the DKult fanzine into laundromats, church pews, doctors office, magazine rack at Walmart, just to disrupt the existing reality & you never know who might get pulled into the network. I think - like the Church of the Subgenius - there were hopes among mail-art slackers that people would just mail them money & gifts.
The Church of the Subgenius was like a giant pyramid thing. I remember seeing random Dr. Bob street graffiti. It coincided with Neo, Post-Neo, Anti-Neo, which existed or didn't exist, depending on how you look at it. Jim Leftwich is a Post-Neo, among other things.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoism
One of the people - still around - who got into all sorts of fake organizations, people, conspiracy theories {"The 14 Secrets Masters of the Universe') is John Bennett's pal Blaster Al Ackerman. Ruud did a great interview, that if anyone has time, is worth a look for the "Royal Scams" of m-a. RayJo, before that, had his clubs, Buddha University, etc.
Erni,I sent a few of those Elect Erni campaign pieces but must have missed it/them being posted. thought I sent one to Kat but don't remember now. I really should be more methodical about keeping track of what I send. I usually think about 30 seconds into the future and am so excited to get stuff in the mail--like today I forgot to put a stamp. and if by some miracle they send it through, I will feel awful that it will arrive postage due.
I've heard of the The Church of the Subgenius . I forget who you said was behind making up and publicly posting fliers and pamphlets for fictitious organizations, but I love that idea. Points out the absurdity...well, of everything!
Erni, I'll get something in the mail to you!!
I think Ruud did a great deal and without the help of a stamp on his forehead. I am glad we have the facts about stamps recorded before everyone forgets.
The stamp was by Cathérine Petré. I only cut the frame and added @IUOMA to it and started the FAN club to have a place to have all things fit together. Not that much I did, but it reulted in quite a lot of postings...... So, there are enouhj FAN's!
