I think I discovered a long time ago that Guido's titles rarely have anything to do with his drawings. I always thought that this was a great idea and use a similar system sometimes myself.
One way is to open up a book and use the title of a chapter. Lately I used "The black spot" from Treasure Island. Yes one of those books I chopped up. It was a nice hard cover illustrated one as well.
Sometime I wish I could draw like Guido.…

A one-stop shop for mail viewing and a great way for me to catch up on some overdue blogging so I can have some mailart-making time :)))))))))))))))))))
An eye-popping bubble kissed collage from Angie sans Snooky, I'll bet he would've had something to say about that cat suit.

This card by Guido took me by surprise - I did not expect another mailing so soon! Both Britain and India are very close to my heart, so I really appreciate the tension and humour in this collage of Victorian ladies and Indian dancer . The card is appropriately called "Culture Shock". Makes me crack up up every time I look at…

It came in through the bathroom window, protected by a silver spoon ...
"Stop that Music" is a photocopy of images & a music sheet which I found inside of a painted envelope entitled The Flower Arrangement. The music sheet is of the Beatles song, "She came in through the bathroom window". It is all part of the grand illusion of course. And without smoke or mirrors!…

By Guido, "Moths Crossing the Danube Around 1890": The imagination in this piece--the concept, the title, and how it was constructed--floors me. I did get a kick out of finding moths crossing the Danube long ago when I opened the envelope! Speaking of the envelope, here is another of Guido's beauties that I love, "Rules to Dodge and Other Games," dedicated to Bob Dylan:…

Wednesday 16 november: my first mail art arrived!
A wonderful envelope, painted in beautiful shapes and colours!
Inside this piece of art a poem, Guido Vermeulen made for me, after he had seen the video of my paintings
with the music of Debussy.

If mail art came in a candy sack, I would be dragging my haul along the ground back to my lair so I could roll around in all my sweets! As it is, I got some really SWEET mail art in celebration of All Hallow's Eve--the day that marks the thinnest veil between this world and the other where our forebears ethereally mingle. Just look at this stash:

Guido's "The Work of a Lifetime":
The title could be interpreted in multiple ways, like probably many of Guido's art envelopes. The man is astoundingly prolific, and that his verbal interpretive mind is right up there, always on the case along with the painter, makes everything I've received from him not only visually interesting and often beautiful (like this…

Mail from Guido Vermeulen (Belgium) arrived last week. A beautiful painted envelope (large) in which he included some details of his work and also a photo of his working place where you can see how he makes his envelopes. Seems he like to use a lot of ink. Also a…

A tribute to Estonian composer Arvo Part: We have been conversing about contemporary composers and share an appreciation of Arvo Part. Part's "Tabula Rasa" came up as Guido was working on this incredible painting, and it evolved into a tribute to Part. I was enjoying seeing it in fragments in Guido's photos, and then, to my great surprise, the whole large painting arrived in…

I think this is wild and wonderful:
Guido titles this "The Firebird" on the front, saying that it was "inspired by the music of Igor Stravinsky." I can see that, and am extra delighted that this envelope painting is big: 9" x 12 1/8". I appreciate all of Guido's work, and the size really doesn't matter to me, but he had to paint on a large envelope this time because he…

I have been admiring them, Guido, and am really thrilled with this beaut: What luck, and not only that: Guido included a photo of a piece he received from Catherine Petre. Catherine's piece is one I saw among Guido's photos here and liked so much that I favorited it! Did you know that, Guido?? Or was this an amazing coincidence? In any case, Thank You! Photo is below. (And…
