A Blog for J J Martyn, Toronto Canada

I received this on Monday from J.J. (is that how you want to be known??) all the way from Canada. I bet its icing up there, while we SWELTER and storm? The artwork arrived in this card, also by JJ and her partner Mike. She had noticed the cat blogs and cat days and thought this appropriate - it is! The card is made from paper cut-outs - Amazing!

Received from Diane Keys, USA--Student Pass

Diane mailed an engaging example of what can be done with the things others discard. Scraps of trash, bits of printed text--she rescues and elevates fragments to create a new sentiment. The stitching work not only defines, but connects. Thanks,…

Many Thanks

Am so grateful to everyone here at IUOMA for the birthday shout outs and their kind words. Have been tied up with school and films so have been very quiet here. Have a pile of art to post out and get up to speed with. Xmas break is December 18 so I shall be more proactive and visible. Thanks again to everyone for the continued love and support.

Received from Katerina Nikoltsou, Greece--Haptic Buffalo and Roaming Mail Art

Okay, I knew this envelope of goodies was coming my way, but I really did wonder when, and then, while I was out shoveling snow just now, my 84-year-old neighbor brought Katerina's mail art over to me. Not only did she have my mail art for nearly two weeks, but she had already opened it, stating that her curiosity was irresistible. It had some "dust and crumbs" in it which she took upon herself to get rid of for me, which…

There was a story, and it had (a lot of) holes - for De Villo Sloan

This was my "sorry-I-couldn't-send-you-the-original-TCG-chapter" to Sloan, and my response to his now famous holes in the paper.

A refined young lady - from Jen Staggs

Jen's mail is the epitome of vintage. Here she used a card that already had a pretty vintage fragrance (the red flowers), and gave it her own twist. The dress is a pencil work on tracing paper, which gives a nice transparency. But the story really unfolds on the back of the card. It's like opening the doors of a sophisticated and elegant salon of the 18th century.
