View of scroll painting created by Carmela Rizzuto using a bundle of straw dipped into sumi-e and acrylic inks on kozo paper. The scroll honors Shimamoto's technique and his Japanese heritage. It celebrates the 'broom painting' by Shozo Shimamoto on 9/6/2012 on the Plazzo Magnani in Regio Emilia, Italy. Shimamoto is known for his 'broom paintings'--he used a common household, straw broom, dipped in paint and applied to canvas.
The scroll was bound using traditional Japanese techniques and resides in a decorated mailing tube. Shown at the 'Gutai and Mail Art" exhibit at San Francisco Art Institute, California.
Donated to John Held, Jr. Mail Art Archives, San Francisco, CA.
