Well can I and David and probably a bunch of other people come live on your porch in 30 years, Theresa? I can pay for my own rocking chair but little else.

David: HAHAHA! Hysterical.

Um, I don't mean to be critical, but aren't the eyes a little large for the bod? You can claim artistic license if you want. If you need the cheap way out. ...

That is poetic, and almost tempting, and I appreciate the new mental vision, David. The chestnut tree branches summoning...yes.

Did you know that a sultana can be "a small, light brown, seedless raisin used in foods such as puddings and cakes"?

Nancy, the rocking chair brigade will not be found in a cinder block holding tank. We will insist on a wrap-around porch with views of the giant chestnut tree whose branches will summon us up to some greener pasture at the appointed time. Sultana #2 will open the screen door with a tray of lemonade and will find the chairs empty but still rocking down, rocking down.

Only a #2 Sultana? That's a shame and c'est la vie.

Talk about nostalgia. I'd kill for that white wooden house (including incomprehensible banter) if I ever make it to 90, but Marie, unfortunately most of those places are now concrete/cinderblock mini-Kmarts. The people who work inside them I consider heroes, however, despite some knock-down drag-out fights in the parking lot over my dad's pain meds and the state's decision at one point to move him three hours away from me instead of one. I digress, yikes. Maybe in 30 years we'll be back to white wooden houses--a major plus for a mail artist because there might be a nook or cranny perfect for mail art supplies and small but big-enough table. Doesn't take much, really. :--}

Thank you, Theresa !

You're welcome, Nancy. There's a lot of free-range nostalgia floating around out there but I like it when it has an actual source....an apple tree, a wrap-around porch, a #2 Sultana...

Nancy, you are so welcome. Your mail was a real present. And you make me laugh, now I'm picturing you and D. Stafford age 90 next to each other on a rocking chair on the porch of a white wooden house, mumbling incomprehensible banter.

Thank you, David. Your opinion matters to me, in case you haven't picked up on that yet. It's a good thing, since who knows, eventually we might end up next to each other on the assisted-living porch as part of the rocking chair brigade.

Marie, i want to thank you again for your beautiful and sensitive blog, and for including your own personal reactions. (And for posting here too, wow!)  There was no question this was going to the right person, but you went above and beyond the call of duty in your blog, and I am deeply touched by what you wrote and by all you put into presenting what I sent you. Thank you for being a wonderful receiver!
