The Philpott Lake Project

Information

The Philpott Lake Project

I came across almost 50 unused postcards of an unfortunate looking lake in Virginia at a junk shop yesterday and I think they have potential.

I was hoping that I could send them out to any interested artist, they could alter them as they see fit, send them back to me, and I could publish the responses in any format the group would like.  Maybe I could scan them and create a Tumblr page?

No restrictions on the medium or content, first 47 responses, and I will publish as we go.

I am open to any and all suggestions.

I am also a new member, so please correct and forgive me if I don't understand quite how things work yet.  Participants will be sent a piece of art from me as well.

I hope you don't change the format Diana. I think it's perfect for displaying this project.

Thanks, Grace!  Gina, you can drag the envelope off to the side and see the contents (the images are stacked).  The format takes a second to get used to, but I thought it "feels" more like tangible mail.  If everyone hates it I can switch it around.  I also saved the images as PNGs so you could get a better sense of the shape of the envelopes and cards.

WOW Diana! I love what you've done with the display of everyone's alterations and envelopes. Congratulations on this excellent and creative project.

Hi Diana, Hope your Mum is feeling better... Good to see my card made it back to you. Is the Tumblr page a work in progress? I only ask as your recent updates are just showing envelopes for me.

I spent the weekend re-imaging all of your beautiful artwork and reformatting the Tumblr page, so please take a look when you have a moment.  Everything is up to date!  If I have received your card, it is posted.

Having said that, apologies to Erin Morse and Onyx Loves Mail, somehow you joined the group under my radar and I owe you postcards, they will go out tomorrow along with cards for Lynn and Kursat.

Everyone else should have received their Philpott originals from me by now.  If you haven't, please let me know.  I am down to my last three and I will set aside a replacement for you if you need one.

Diana--I just had lots of fun looking through the contributions from all the mail artists (so far). Such imagination!!!  Thanks so much for adding the envelopes, backs of postcards, etc. All your work to document this project is very much appreciated!

Monsenhor enVide neFelibata, thank you!  It just arrived.  I am updating our tumblr but it is a bit messy at the moment.  I decided to re-image all of the artwork, which is quite a process.  There are a few things being fixed (I scanned things that were previously photographed, some of the scans need to be replaced with photographs because of the nature of the art.)  Anyhow, pardon the mess, but it will all be sorted soon.

Apologies, I have lots of updates to make tomorrow.  My 96 year-old grandmother wasn't feeling well and requested a visit, of course I couldn't say no.  I am working on a few art project for all of you and planning my trip to the lake soon.  If you have any special requests for art, please let me know.  Please also feel free to share your other projects here.  I would love to participate in any way that I can and I am so grateful to be a part of this magical group of exceptionally talented individuals.
