Helene, Again, I’m sorry to hear the postal service is deteriorating. It makes me sad. Mail has always been very important to me. That is a huge building.
It is my post office. I know it is impressive. I live in the hyper center of Bordeaux (256,045 inhabitants). This large building is in fact the General Directorate of the Post of Bordeaux, with administrative offices, business services, premises for postal workers. The post office with stamps, machines, etc... is on the ground floor.
There are post offices in every district of Bordeaux, and mailboxes everywhere.
In France, the post office has been half privatized. There is a lot of turnover and the service is deteriorating.
I have had a lot of problems recently (undelivered newspapers, letters to neighbors, etc.). Consumers in France complain a lot about the post office.
In the countryside many small offices close.
Oh no, Mail Art Martha, that’s terrible! Thankfully I haven’t had any problems ordering stamps from USPS. The world is changing, not always for the best.
So amazing! Serendipity at its best. I had just wrote the following when I found an invitation to join this group.
This is what I wrote:
Mail Art for ever? I wish! I am so afraid our postal services (I live in England), misnomed 'Royal' mail but really a business, is going to stop delivering letters. Prices go up and up since our right wing government sold it , postboxes are disappearing and now when I tried to buy stamps by post their website is down and have been so for many weeks. If I go to the local post office, which moved from a dedicated building to the back of a shop, I cannot buy all I need because they haven't so many!!!
I will have to post from different places but they are fast disappearing.
So now we know where the Mail Art police reside!
This is my local post office, which I can actually SEE from the back of my house. However, this is the same post office that is home to the Mail Art Police--the ones who have given me a bad time about my mail art. SO... I almost never visit it other than to drop things off (postcards, etc.) in the drop box (pictured) outside. All of my mail art (including a few pieces hopefully heading out tomorrow) I drop in random mail boxes OFF of the island. Even the the entries for your Goth Emporium projects have been mailed from a different post office, at the next town north.
Thank you, Marcia. I look forward to seeing your photos.
Maxima, it’s a great idea to share photos of our post office. The old and small buildings are my favorites too. Soon I'll go to my p.o. and I'll share it with you.
Mark, your P.O. it's absolutly gorgeous.
Carien, very sad... so impersonal.
