An artistamp (a portmanteau of the words "artist" and "stamp") or artist's stamp refers to a postage stamp-like artform. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp in that it is not valid for postage, but it differs from a forgery or a bogus stamp in that (typically) the creator has no intent to fool any post office or collector of stamps. (However, depending on how the stamp is used, it may be difficult to distinguish artistamps from local post stamps.) The artistamp is intended to be a miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject its creator chooses.

My stamps thus far have been done up by Anna Banana. For the moment I won’t be perfing so I will go with the drawn version I made in Illustrator. I know it’s the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese calendar but in the Republic of Whimsy it’s the Year of the Cheshire Sun!

Well that large type is a bit overwhelming - just couldn't get it out.

This is an open call for photos of artistampers. It can be a stand alone photo or part of your stamps. Please post them at the Gina Lotta Post Artistamp Museum's new Facebook Page. They'll become part of the museum collection so be sure to describe your post.

If you do not use Facebook, please mail your photo to: PO Box 1424, Jupiter, FL 33468

Thank you for your support of this museum and the blog. So many of you are followers, In February I added photos and a video of “Snowfall Mail Art - Fluxus Score with Stamps” by Andrew Oleksiuk Performed at Chicago Fluxfest – 2011. This is a fun performance and you should take a look if you haven’t seen it.

An effort was made to compile a contact list for all of the artistamp contributors but this became an overwhelming project in of itself and has been put on an indefinite hold. If you are looking for artists' addresses or wish to get into contact with anyone you can use Fraenz Frisch's address list at http://www.mailart.lu/adressen.htm This resource has the mechanism to update contact changes and is devoted to this purpose.
