Mail art by IUOMA member Angelica M. Paez (Houston, Texas, USA)

December 30, 2015 - Angelica Paez is an extraordinarily gifted and skilled collage artist who is becoming a presence in the Eternal Network. Among other venues, her work is “turning heads,” as they say, in the digital gallery here at IUOMA-Ning, where she consistently receives rave/fave reviews. That is where I first encountered her art and, specifically, the RAY-O-VAC piece that now has a permanent and special place in the great MinXus-Lynxus Archives. I am thrilled to have received the piece. Here is the reverse side:

RAY-O-VAC showcases Angelica Paez’s refined aesthetic eye. She has an incredible ability to locate striking vintage/found material and to re-combine and re-contextualize it so it transcends its often mundane origins. In short, this is an amazing piece; I think the color is extraordinary. Angelica Paez also has great conceptual ability, which is a key to successful mail art because ultimately it is a form of conceptual art. RAY-O-VAC is built upon powerful associations, wordplay and humor. This brilliant conceptualism is present in most work by Angelica Paez. Thus, her aesthetics and associations are a winning combination. She included a very kind note:

RAY-O-VAC is a remarkable gift in and of itself. Yet Angelica Paez has elevated the communication to true correspondence art. She combines the best in contemporary mail art with mail art’s “Great Tradition.” This is a spectacular package!
