Parcel from Canada

Someone from Canada must have sent me a parcel and indicated a value.

When someone does that and it comes from outside Europe the PostNL aks for taxes for the amount that is indicated. You have to pay in advance, or else the parcel is returned. I missed the deadline for payment on this parcel, so it is returned. Not sure who sent me something from Canada. Also a tip is : indicate it is a gift with no value. Otherwise I have to pay taxes on the amount you indicate.

I have received hard cover books and other items, not the work of the mail artist that sent them. That is not Mail Art as far as I can see and puts me in a difficult situation because I cannot respond in kind. Postage in the UK is very high. I do not know about packages but for a 20 gram letter not thicker than half a centimetre we pay £ 1.85. In Euros it is 2.11 (2. 29 USA dollars but USA rate for an international 28 grams letter is less than a dollar) and going up any day now. The day will come when Mail Art in the UK will be killed by our postal services. It has been maimed already, having to restrict the weight so much.
