I draw, paint and sketch most of my mail art. Here are some of the things I use:

Photo One (l to r): Colour Staedtler pens (tripuls fineliner 0.3mm), Staedtler Lumocolour (permanent 0.4mm, 0.6mm, 1.0mm, 1.0-2.5mm), Stablio Watercolour Pencils, Derwent Inktense Pencils (Can be used on fabrics), Pencils (HB, 3B, 5B, 6B), Staedtler Pens (different colours and width - all permanent), rubbers and sharpener, Faber-Castell Oil pastels, and Faber-Castell Polychromos colour pencils.

Photo Two: Staedtler Watercolour paints.

It's important for the pens to be permanent as I usually use water with pencils and I use paints. Also ensuring that the mail art that I send is not going to lose its colour or get damaged is important. The weather here in Ireland isn't kind to post at times. The watercolour pencils are handy. I dip them into water as I colour and it works a bit like paint. To add an extra bit of intensity I sometimes paint over the watercolour pencils with watercolour paints. The Inktense pencils have quite an intense colour. The pencils can be used on lots of different types of material even fabrics. I colour in the drawings first and then brush it over with a wet paint brush. This brings out the colour and makes it permanent.

Ooooh, the colours of paint or pencils make me really happy. Love to wander around in an art supplies shop. Beautiful.
