Glitter & Glam by Annette Kesterson (San Francisco, California, USA)

Kesterson - 9.23.2014 - 1

Mail-art by IUOMA member Annette Kesterson (San Francisco, California, USA)

September 24, 2014 - I deeply appreciate this compelling and somewhat cryptic postcard-size work sent by new mail-art friend Annette Kesterson in San Francisco. My favorite part, the part that made my day, is difficult to see via a scan:

It is the glitter that gives this piece added sparkle! While I do not use it myself, I am an advocate for more glitter in mail-art, especially in light of this lovely piece by Annette Kesterson! She has made some real magic here, I think. Yet beneath the glitter there is the artistic gold of images, juxtapositions, colors and text fragments (among other elements). A wonderful introduction to a new mail-art friend! Thanks again, Annette.

I also highly recommend Annette Kesterson’s The Scarlet Librarian blog:

Annette, you definitely have "a little gilt."

ha!  i love sparkly things, but it is a shameful love...i have a little guilt about the mail belonging to everyone else that is having a little frottage with my glitter--though maybe that PG&E bill needed some shiny!

Thoughtful work and words from Anette. I was just about to give away my glitter I have stored in the drawer too long...

Great blog!

Glitter was used by artists 30,000 years ago, on their cave paintings.  When I get a chance, I'll check out the blog.  Thanks DVS, for letting us know glitter and glam are very much alive and kicking!
