The opening was a success. We had approximately 1,223 visitors, of which 5 signed the guest book. They had this to say about David's latest series of artspace desktops: "Where is the bathroom?" " Stafford provides a framework through which understanding obfuscates unknowability."--Dave Hickey, Food Critic Magazine. "Where's the food?"--Dave Hickey, Food Critic Magazine "I was a little disappointed as I was hoping to see more of David's spleen shaped rock installations, but began to see the beauty and subtlety of his newest series. I took it to mean that it is not the creation itself , but the act of creation that is important. That, or he's getting lazy." "How do I go about purchasing a David Stafford original? I want it on my wall next to my Mondrian--to which I see similarities.I've got a budget of $100.00 Does he barter?"
The highlight was when David began doing impromptu caricatures of the guests. He then mixed and matched their body parts, an exquisite corpse-esque commentary on the quintessence of exquisite corpseness. I think it's about Tic Tac from Germany.
They said I lifted this from Warhol. They said a lot of things. Some of them true. Like the accusation that I have a full head of hair and I only wear the "bald toupee" to affect a nutty professor vibe. That does happen to be true.
DVS & DW, you have no idea how hard it's been for us since Thomas Kinkade kicked. Gone is the inner glow. Gone is the gingerbread home we thought we'd migrate to in our dotage. Now were stuck in Gangnam Style, our faces twisted into a decidedly unasemic question mark.
I'm seeing that David really likes to wear these splashes of color, which is unusual because of how unassuming he usually is. I think he might be ready for the Flying Foys for the next show. The patrons really love the drama, the fog machine, the bubbles, and now you've given me the perfect idea for the music.Life really is a collaborative effort isn't it? DW, I hope your 'replicas' can earn DVS 100K by next week. We had many bidders at the auction and yet we chose him because of his rare art collection.
