That IS interesting, Marie. I'm sure Alsace is an incredible place with a fascinating history. Clearly, the place being described in "Observations upon the Mammals of Alsace" is becoming more and more an imaginary place of Dw's invention. I suppose surrealism does result in dreamscapes.

Interesting you should make the comment because so much mail-art seems tied to Dada rather than surrealism. But surrealism is fun to play with because you are indeed weaving dreams. "The Alsacian Cat" - the real title - is just a detour on the road to "Treaty of Alsace" and then? Who knows?

He seems to be a natural for surrealism. Ever since his cheerio scans a long time ago. But what an evolution from there. Is he also the size of a cat?

I didn't know about surrealism and Alsace. His medieval illuminated ms in TVMTS reminded me that Gutenberg worked as a blacksmith/goldsmith in Alsace and probably worked on his famous printing press at that time. So books were born in Alsace!

Alsace can't be all that far from Andalusia, Apparently surrealism was invented in Alsace, according to Dw, the most important thing to happen there since the Ice Age and the Virgin of Maps & Train Schedules. The Eohippus was the size of a cat, so maybe there's a connection there too.

What's going to happen in eight days? I'm clueless. If he had said, "Alsacian Cat," the reference to the surrealist film would probably have been lost. The cat is missing an eye.

I'm sure he is. Of course the original was "Andalusian Dog."

That's very interesting, DW, and more and more cryptic. Are you referring to this?
