(A Pre)P.S.:Apologiees that these pics I attached kind of intersect with the flow of the text...um well ho hum technology la la la ? (That's all I have to say bout that at least until I figure this site out!)...
Dear Carl:
On Test Pattern 1174: I, for whatever deeply buried or ingrained reasoning, have always yearned to master the art of re-drawing barcodes. By hand, in either india ink or gouache, I think-for one thing as a way to both build mad art and draftsmanship skills as well as show a few head honcho's out there just who's boss in MY world, a world in which some robots are actually friendly and others puppetheads and doppleganger bobblehead ghosts in charge of something or other they know little about if u catch my drift. On the other hand, I want to do it because I find them mathematically beautiful. See, I flunked arithmetic and algebra but aced geometry; shapes make sense to me because they're in essence just forms, whereas the linear and I...well let's just say I'm a tangential wanderer in all ways (if u can't already tell by this rant of a comment) For instance a 4 for me is a single antenna, all bent out of shape with angles acute and triangles too skinny, skinny like cheesecake slices as opposed to pizza slices, am I making sense? If not that's probably because that is my point: me & #'s admire one another from afar...I paint trompe l'oeils and pet portraiture for my day job, so nothing beneath the picture pretty surface has to be in working order or configured right; like a watch as opposed to a brooch or a necklace: both jewelry, one momre complicated throughout than the other...
I see you have a background in architectural drafting? I have a game I play, it's similar to "M.A.S.H." or "Would You Rather" in some ways, it goes like this: #1.Treehouse OR Teahouse? #2. Igloo OR Teepee? #3. Bauhaus OR Handmade Houses? ("The Woodbutchers Art-" I got this termiology out of a book I found in the back pages of the 1970 Whole Earth Catalogue, have u read it or heard of it? Oh so 1970's, it smells feels sounds and reads of communal living, love of nature, the green revolution & naturalist new age poetics bridging on beat sometimes but also seen in the work of say Richard Long, Smithson of course, Jean Claude & Christo too. I'm not at all closely familiar or versed architecture-BUT-BUT-BUT!!! I DID study monumental drawing in college, and I AM a die-hard obsessively hungry fan of all things Bauhaus, Paul Klee, Maholy-Nagy etc. Also (arguably somewhat) pertinent: Right now I am in the midst of designing floor plans with an architect's help for my husband and I's future dream home/shed-loft (in rural MAine, we are out of Arundel, downeast)- namely, a cross between land art, earthworks, handmade houses and the small home movement-and all for the love of Klee the uncut forest the open sky and being able to hear the coyote and owl drama all night long out my bedroom window! So let's just count this exxxtttrrraaalllloooonnnngggg comment on this one piece of your work and say it covers all of your work-I have sat for 45 minutes now & looked thru your pics and I see a lot happening brings up intertextual type stuff, questions I'd love 2 pick your brain about.
My instagram page, as my IUOMA pics are minimal thus far on my profile (I work off of an old school Macintosh laptop, NOT an iphone or ipad): https://www.instagram.com/hilaryeliza9/
Thanks!
