This was a prototype design by the recently defunct Bookmark Company. The idea was that this particular bookmark would be in the shape of a flamingo, with the neck marking the page. Unfortunately, their R &D Department failed to realise that a) the flamingo should be dead, b) that a flamingo is way too long to use as a bookmark, and c) a flamingo was very likely to turn nasty when mistreated -- eg when someone tried to use it as a bookmark.

Shortly after these experiments with a live flamingo started, the Bookmark Company was declared bankrupt -- and the Head of the R1D Department was hospitalised for wounds sustained when trying to place a live flamingo in a book.

The RSPB is considering taking legal action against the Bookmark Company, but declined to comment 'at this moment in time' (or 'now')
