I created a steady stream of handmade postcards from 1985 until 2002, mostly under the pseudonyms of Blackbeard and DAG. Mail art 'zines such as Beatniks from Space, MalLife, and Outre provided my inspiration back in the 1980s.
I love writing to friends, acquaintances, and total strangers. I love to create conversation pieces with my own two hands.

Hello, all! My sincere greetings to the IUOMA!
Building from a slow start... I have eight images posted. More in the next few days. Hello from North Carolina!
Hey David - wow - Beatniks from Space, Gerry Reith (Neutron Gun), Mike Miskowski's MaLLife, Jake Berry and Outre - those are certainly ground zero for me. Great times. I'll go back in the archives and see if I can figure out who you are, as it's not ringing a bell at the moment.
Check out Borderline Grafix (TX) here at IUOMA. He is linked to some of those zines and some Neoist activities. John M. Bennett, Ficus and others are also here - probably you found them.
It was a Citadel BBS, before internet, dialup, one-customer-at-a-time. The metaphore was a castle of mansion of rooms in which we 'poets' wd leave messages, often snarky, for each other and where I felt the need to appear powerful so named myself Ficus strangulensis.
Paulauskas issued cassettes, at least one of which I [think I still] have, "How to Love the Rotting Cadaver #9" which was a recitation of computer generated text as it rolled off a screen backed by Tuvan throat singing.
Paulauskas had pieces performed by DaDa NY, wrote poetry I enjoyed and published in TRANSMOG my first publishing adventure which lasted a few years ~91-96.
About this time, I started doing cutups separating texts into ~ 4" lines and repurposing. My 'ouvre' resides now in the OSU Library Avant Writing collection c/o John M. Bennett.
I'll look for the 'rotting cadaver' tape, and if you can play cassettes, will send you one. If not, I can transfer it to mp3 but with my legendary laziness, that may not happen near-instantaneously.
You're welcome David! That is the first postcard collage I have sent without putting it in an envelope. The post office did mark it up a bit, but I think it survived well enough. And why is it that junk mail arrives pristine, but mail art looks like it was dragged through the street?
Wow! Two cards from you on the same fabulous day! I must be living right! I love the blue and yellow painted image that looks like a skull to me although sort of a silly one, not spooky at all. If it's not a skull and is intended to be a portrait of your aunt Drusilda, I apologize. Anyway, I like it a lot. And of course the bunny is fantastic. I love the ID of "Hi! I'm an ear!" just in case there was any doubt. I think this is the first bunny anyone has sent me so I'm very pleased with it. Thanks for palling up with me!
