oh dear god forgive me but i hate pizza and pay almost no attention to which pizzerias thrive and which have passed away i will check on the bridge street joint the next time i go down main street.

the pleasant street theater lives and continues to celebrate the arrogant and elitist experience du le Cinema. and boyoboy in this town does it still pack the suckers in. I think they sell snacks like arugula and pesto.

there's a really good and really superpopular pizza-by-the-slice hole in the wall frequented by punk kidz and students on the next block down from the unpleasant street cinema.

i am being unfairly mean to the pleasant street theater. if not for them, i would never have been able to see the widely banned "Crash" by Cronenberg. I loved that flick. What are the 2 Great Themes of American movies? Car Chases/Wrecks, and Hot Sex. So where was the harm in making a movie about people who love to have sex by getting into car wrecks? Where is the harm?

(I couldn't stop laughing thru the movie and almost got thrown out.)

After 26 years i'm real burned out on Northampton. It could have been Athens. But it just lost the vision. Going into the woods 0.3 miles off the grid. (But we'll still have the hi-speed Internet.)

In radio and news for several yrs. Then window display/visual merchandiser for yrs. Then interior designer. Now rocknroll mall to two amazing kids! Paths may have indeed crossed. We fell in love w a gorgeous house! less than 20 min from Noho (employement) and the area is funky. Would like it to be more funky though. Dwtown is afraid of commerce. Very sad. But we love the area, close to NY and Boston. Lots of art and musical carrots just dangling for the taking. We make our own reality in this part of the woods. An added bonus, in greenfield, manna falls from heaven on tuesdays and the lolipop trees are in full bloom!

This morning I learned of the passing of a dear mailart pal, Michel Champendal 1954-2009. Many thanks to Luc Fierens for relaying this sad info to me. That pebble he gathered for me and the polaroid he took of the Duchamp tomb and the related stories (and others) gave me a smile, to quote Marcel "see you soon".

Carl the Painter (nope, it doesn't sound nearly as good in English) was indeed a hell of a guy. I forget which postcard I had sent him that became a pinup. If you want to see my postcard sampler take a gander at Byron Allen Black in the Stuart Gallery section of Saatchi. Cheers

Oh yeah, now it all comes back to me. That was just before my pornograph got clogged up and the turbo-encapsulator broke down.

Hey if you're interested have a look at some of my playfulness in the Saatchi student section:
    http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/stuart/StudentArt/ast_id/22026

You wouldn't happen to remember which mailartist coined the magnificent (sort of Stalinist) credo of PLAY TIME FOREVER by any chance? I've appropriated it; I think it's a grand expression and sums up my feelings and attitudes perfectly. Fuck I'm almost 70 years old but when I say that it sounds like a lie - like a line from a high school play (powder in my hair and greasepaint wrinkles). Anyhow what's up in Raleigh. Well, apart from lighting up, that is. I'm a cigar smoker myself. Like Mark Twain was alleged to have put it: "Having been cruelly deprived of the pleasure of smoking cigars up to the age of 8, I have made up for this by not ceasing to smoke them ever since". Ah.

    Personal Mail-Art Invitation:

    Dear Networker, dear steve

On the 18th of September 2011 the Art Museum of the Canton of Thurgau in Switzerland will have an Opening for the exhibition "Conquer the Living Rooms of the World." This is a retrospective of my artistic activities from almost the last 40 years.

One section of the exhibition is dedicated to my activity in the world-wide Mail Art Network. I am inviting you to send me one of your typical creatively altered letter envelopes and one of your sheets of stamps. The deadline is the 10th of September. Your contribution will be integrated into the exhibition and will become a part of the museum's collection.

This personal invitation is being extended to around 60 of my "old" Mail Art partners with whom I am currently still in contact with through Facebook.

I look forward to your contribution!
