Oh, Susan, it took me months to reply because I felt uncomfortable about the money side of it too. There was an order form for some catalogue, which it appeared I could buy. I couldn't decide if it was a hoax or not, so I sent the drawing of a lucky penny from Fortnum & Mason. Vernon, I have the original add & pass photocopy that was sent to me. I could turn it into a similar little zine and would be happy to send it on to you, if you like.

Susan, no problem. I hope you are doing well. To be honest, I would not know what makes artwork suspect. Someone is trying to express something, puts time into it, puts money into it (supplies, postage, etc.) and mails it off hoping to make a connection. I thought mail art was supposed to be a place where artists could bypass the judgement of the galleries and critics. I read posts on here about things being not very artistic, fake and thrown away and I have come to the conclusion that this community is not for me. I thought mail art didn’t have any rules. Take care.

I'm sorry I didn't know aboutKrzysztof Szymczak. I looked him up in the UoMA list of mail-artist profiles and he wasn't there, so I apologize for that misunderstanding.

The only things I would throw away are things that seem suspect, such as a request to send money. I don't think I need to post a warning about that.

Krzysztof Szymczak is an artist from Poland and has been active with mail art since at least 2015. Susan, I think you should add a warning on your page to other artists that you throw away received mail art, so they know this before they send mail to you. As this is not the first time you have written about throwing away artwork.

I would immediately trash anyting that asked me to mail 30 pounds. And there's no IUOMA member named Krzysztof Szymczak.

Months ago I received some mail art. I didn't know what it was. I replied to it in my way - I cut things out, drew things on, added some stamps, folded it into a zine and sent a lucky penny back because I was asked to mail them £30 (which confused me enormously!). I have figured out that it was an add & pass, so I have posted it here. I have a photocopy of their original but not of mine. It was from someone called Krzysztof Szymczak - but I sent my version back to him. Does anyone want to play with one of these if I fix it up a bit?
