Trash book without any trash - from Nancy Bell Scott

Trash books are undoubtedly the big thing right now. Nancy very kindly wanted to send me one, but she also knows that I am not that much into trashpo. What she managed to make here is a trash book that contains only treasures. I have to say, I was blown away by her work. Every page is absolutely exquisite. I can't even start listing all the textures, the techniques, the variety of cut outs, the layers, the colors. It's just mesmerizing. I hope the pictures will speak for themselves and give you an idea of the beauty of that work. Nancy, I don't even know how to thank you. But thank you!! (let's see what I can send you back...)

Absolutely beautiful, Nancy! I, too, received an amazing bookie from Nancy and blogged it as "trashpo"...definitely with great emphasis on the "po"= poetry! Poetically constructed and created with many, many bits and pieces of "rubbish", or "left-overs", or "don't throw-in-the-trash-but-recycle-it". Nancy brings it all to a high level of art...'tis an artist's book...but also a trashpo book. 'Tis a trashpo artist's book!

Does Nancy's book have a cereal box piece? Yip - I think your prediction has proved valid :-) XXX

Could this be the "sophisticated trash" I was talking about a long time ago?? I was mocked back them, but what do you say now? :-)

Thanks for your comments everyone! it is a Wunderbar book indeed. Again, how can I express what I feel when I am holding it in my hands? It's difficult.

Here is what Nancy wrote in the note to me: Dear Marie, You know the trashpo books we're making in the trashpo group? Well, this one I made for you is sort of like those, only there's nothing I consider trash in it.

Can there be an esthe-trashpo? Or is that impossible by definition? What about Cheryl's trash book to DK for instance?

Marie yesterday I blogged the Trash book that Nancy sent me, it is similar to yours, and I agree with what you and Cheryl say, they are both exquisite. And yes DVS - where does one draw the line?? Nancy has put a LOT of time and effort into these books...BRAVO Nancy!

I can only deduce that Trashpo minus the trash = poetry. Not such a bad thing

Nancy - no wonder you are 'slow' - you're not SLOW - you just make beautiful work - and that takes time - so this is a FAB for sure - I wonder too if this is a trash book - it may contain found materials, but they have all been aesthetically altered - LUCKY YOU Petit Pea :-) XX

Hi Marie, this is EXTRAORDINARILY beautiful. I think you raise some good questions in your commentary, such as where do you draw a line between a Trash Book and other kinds of artist's books. Maybe the question is will Trashpo develop some kind of aesthetic; it's mostly in an anti-art place right now, I think. I'm musing over this because I'm doing a blog for tomorrow on "A Theory of Trashpo." Anyway, incredible work by Nancy and you are the ideal recipient.
