Received: Mail-Art Monotype from Michalis Kotsaris (Etoliko-Etoloakarnia, Greece)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Michalis Kotsaris (Etoliko-Etoloakarnia, Greece)

January 8, 2011 - Michalis is a very talented artist and IUOMA friend. The first mail-art I have received from him is this monotype. As is often the case, the scan simply does not reveal the complexity or beauty of this piece. The fluid, scrolling design on the left side is amazingly intricate. It makes me think of surrealist automatic drawings where recognizable forms emerge out of the abstraction and then disintegrate like dream images. The letters and numbers at the top remind me of vispo, of course. The textures throughout are amazing. This small work manages to successfully integrate a very wide range of styles and influences: an impressive accomplishment. I am thrilled to have this piece and look forward to more trades with Michalis. He has a great blog where you can see the full range of his work:

Thanks for the mail-art, Michalis

It's amazing what passes for poetry these days - now that you don't have to write it anymore.

Well, according to our Minnesotan friend it is haptic/asemic poetry :-)) You'll see when I blog it....

(sorry to hijack Michalis's blog post)

Yes Marie, it is Kotsaris. I fixed it. Thank you for the kind words on the scan. You'll have to excuse me - I am still reeling over the news about what you received from the Minnesota Menace. That comes on top of the continuation of the Monkey Purge saga... It's so nice we can again be a combined audience of 1.5 - really and truly. I appreciate your comments.

Textures and color are just amazing, I think the scan is actually quite good.

Misspellings seem to stick with you these days Sloan, isn't it KotSaris? (cf title of the blog post)

:-)
