Sue claims this is not as minimal as she would have liked, and I have to agree that it's not the most minimalist work I've seen, but it's extremely handsome and I love it.  Sue also said "...but it screamed NBS!"  There's probably a good reason for that, such as the fact that I too have a hard time doing anything minimal (art or not).

Rotated left is also appealing, and maybe this is how Sue worked on it and saw it:

The first way is what felt right to me, but from this direction some facial features start to appear behind the (beautiful and shiny) black tape if you look long enough, so I'm looking at it both ways depending on the day.  Thank you very much, Sue!

Hey Nancy, Go for it!  I knew you would like it.

Oh, good idea, Sue!  We have piles of cassette tapes -- music and video -- that could be sacrificed for the cause.  At least one will have to be cannibalized Today.  Never even crossed my mind.

This piece, as I live with it, feels so happy.  I don't often work in black and white, color is too tempting (though enjoyed doing some pieces for the B&W Project).  I really love this.  It almost puts the idea of "urban cabana" in mind (is that an oxymoron of sorts?), and that might explain the overall uplift it gives me.

Nancy, Thanks for the blog!  The shiny black tape is re-purposed cassette tape  You just never know when something can be useful.  I now have my eye on my husband's old cassette colllection........
