September 20, 2016 - How can a Trashpo exhibition be comprehensive and significant without Trashbooks? Many believe the Trashbook is the most important and enduring form that Trashpo has given to the art world.

So I am honored and thrilled to unveil an original Trashbook made especially for the Karnival of Trash by the generous and talented Amy Irwen of Minnesota, USA. Additionally, I believe this is Amy’s first Trashbook. This is a triumph for her and a treasure for the Karnival exhibition.

I believe Amy Irwen’s Trashbook falls in the “Aesthetic Trashbook” category (pioneered by Cheryl Penn and Nancy Bell Scott and explained in the essay “A Trashbook Without Trash”) as opposed to the more classical Trashbook invented by Diane Keys. But a Trashbook is a Trashbook, and this is a wonderful example.
