Explore her Feelings and Ideas - from Nancy Bell Scott

This piece by Nancy blew my mind into a different hairdo. I could tell from the envelope...
"Explore her feelings and ideas" is written somewhere in that piece on transparent paper, almost completely merged and blended with the background, just visible enough for me to find it. And I found it. So I thought it would make a perfect title for any of Nancy's creations.

I'm not quite sure about the techniques she is using, but it seems to involve layering of very thin (rice-?) paper on a grid of strings, which gives a subtle three dimensionality to the piece . Part of the paper seems to have its own color, but she also added her own paint, lacquer, bits of text, asemic writing. I think you can tell from the pictures that the colors are to die for. She also very much has her way with shapes. I think it is indeed an exploration. A study on circles and lines and their endless possibilities. This is a very rich piece that I would classify as visual poetry because of the strong visual impact and the way she integrated the various forms of text, but it is so much more. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am. Nancy, thank you for sending, wonderful work as usual!

"Y'all come back now."

I'm laughing ;-)))

You make is sound really deep redneck. And I who reckoned it was an upper middle class slang...

I was hoping it was British. The best I can explain is, it might be the way a cowboy would speak: "I reckon we go down to town and shoot us a few minks next Saturday." Really, it's no big deal.

It's British. What? Rural dialect?? That doesn't sound too good to me, as in my next life I'm going to be British, and possibly the Queen of England.

Marie, where on earth - between Alsace & Japan - did you pick up "I reckon." That's from sort of an... I don't know.. rural dialect in this part of the world: "I reckon a possum done climbed in the window & made off with my best short gun" or something. "I reckon a lynx done jumped over the fence & chewed up three of my prize minks." Nothing wrong with it really, just wondered how. British?

Well, he says anything he makes after 3 months is a relic, not art! As for his sainthood - there was the crucifluxion & the stations of the cross. So I'm not surprised. Nancy doesn't carry such baggage in her work, at least not usually.

I reckon Dw WANTED to make it look like a mummy. While Nancy's intention was probably much different. I'm sure she would appreciate an authentic piece of vispo minxus relic.

Marie - it is sort of like when Dw was trying to mummify stuff with bandages/gauze that were partially transparent - only Nancy has used it in a way that works & it doesn't look like a mummy.

Right, not NV. But it is a piece I would like to have for sure, especially now that I read about the tissue & layering. I think it's one of those you need to touch & look at in person - despite the quality of Marie's images.
