That silly rabbit thought he couldn't burn. Well well well... Unbelievably cute doesn't mean unbelievably smart, does it? :-)
In any case, this is a fantastic envelope from the rodent lover (that sounds wrong) Miss James.
Rabbit looking at the moon.... Here in Japan the rabbit is highly symbolic, and strongly associated with the moon. I found an interesting article on the paradoxical and contradictory…

My first piece of mail art from Canada. 3D, mind you!
Kiera Pannell sent me this great piece of art, a card, oh wait no, 4 cards actually, from the Museum of London. She carved out a branch with leaves in each of them, only slightly bigger every time, and superimposed them to give a sense of depth. Very cool!
The cards were then carefully sewn (stitched?) together with black thread.
On the back of the card she covered…

My good friend Angie had noticed Erni's blog about my sending him a big box of paper. So she, in her kind snookie way sent me an envelope with at least a 1/2 lb of wonderful paper...etc! I LOVED IT! Yeah yeah I'm trying to declutter my studio, but an artist HAS to has a paper pile.....MANDATORY! So Thank you Angie! The scan in no way does it justice.…

Master colorist Erni sent me this great collage from his collection. This is a 2006 piece entitled "Play Illusion". It's quite a treasure. Thanks Erni!

October 2, 2010 - Ruud Janssen, IOUMA founder and artist, is just the best in my book. With everything else he's doing, he manages to keep his mail-art flowing and respond to all kinds of requests and questions. Several weeks ago I received mail-art from him in one of his hand-painted envelopes. It included an add-and-pass sheet to gather Fluxus mail-art documentation for the TAM… Continue

Everyone knows Julian Grant and the magic he does with his stamp carving craft. I can't even start to imagine how much patience it takes for this strawberry stamp to come out so perfect. Let alone his insect men, fish men and other fine creatures he's designing. Amazing stuff, really. Thanks Julian for sending a special piece of your…

September 30, 2010 - This posting is the second part (looks like a total of three) of one batch of outstanding mail-art prints Brent sent me from Pennsylvania. He did an amazing run of about 1,300 prints this summer. In one of the messages we exchanged, he was talking about how much he enjoys mail-art as an alternative to gallery shows - he does show his work on the ground too. All… Continue

September 30, 2010 - Kiera Pannell, an object constantly in motion during the summer, seems to be settled for a while in the UK. She always told me she was from Canada, and the mail-art from her is addressed from everywhere else in the world. IUOMA members who were here over the summer might remember Kiera traveled across Europe and was… Continue

The Crimson Giant and The Tower of Babel
Dear Fellow Collaborators,
This project we are embarking on is an organic process. Please do not stress about time limits, the use of a particular style etc. The greatness of this work is going to be the diversity of voices, the differing methodologies and artistic styles and the diverse interpretations of the
title. The broad idea behind the book is the…

September 29, 2010 - A long-anticipated piece of mail-art arrived in New York from Marie Wintzer about a week ago. I follow Marie's blog and have seen her postings here at the IUOMA, so I knew what I was getting. But nothing really substitutes for the original work itself. The central, post-card size image (above) is rich with layering, text/ure, and is made meticulously (remember… Continue

Mailart. It's changed my whole life. Since discovering it, nearly 2 years ago, I can honestly say that mailart has heavily changed my life. Whereas before I discovered mailart, I was a science and technology person with a passing interest in art, I can now say I am an artist. Mailart has done this.
For me, art lessons at school were always a nightmare. I couldn't draw to save my life and I wasn't raised in an artistic family where images and sounds were valued. I could…
