BANANAS

AKA Anna Banana Appreciation Band (ABAB)

The theme is Bananas & Anna Banana.  Many of our members are « bananas » themselves, others are »fruity », a few are « nutty », and one is completely « ape ».
If you are none of these, don’t worry we can help you with specially designed projects and exams for your progress to the banana status you deserve.
We will also explore the many works of Anna Banana as we give appreciation for involvement in Mail Art & "Art".
PS I you are « crackers » or « loony », this group may not be for you.
Also: see link and fill in the form and return it to Anna Banana!

JUST DELIVERED THE PIECE TO THE GALLERY AND DISCOVERED THAT IT HAD ALREADY BEEN SOLD BEFORE THE SHOW STARTED. SHOWCARD:

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Fantastic stamp, Mike, and congratulations--that piece made a big impression on me when you posted it.

  • Mike Dickau

ERNI AND NANCY! THANKS! I STARTED THAT PIECE IN 1977-GUESS IT PAYS TO NOT GIVE UP ON AN IDEA (AT LEAST SOME OF THEM...).

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

What a show Mike.  Very lucky to be selling any thing these days.  My guess is that it went to the Tate Gallery in London.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

I went to an open air theatre to see a play about the French Revolution.  Lucky, I had my Banana guard with me.  (I just noticed that they are made in Canada.)

  • Louise Kiner

Only in Canada could they make a banana "protector". We like our bagged lunches, but hate squishy bananas.
  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Reminder: So far we are 7 Mail Artists for the August 27, 2012  Banana Lover's Day project.  I just finished two, and hope to do more soon.

  • Carina

Is this Banana guard thing a must for a Banana member? Perhaps it is... when I think.. :)

Have I missed the list of BLD project, who are we, do I have to know...

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Is it a banana or not?  It's yellow and has a photo of the famous "E" (does that what he looks like?), but does that make it a banana?

No, but I just recieved this from Erni.  It includes a CD case and if you peep through the edge, you can see that there is actually a CD in there.

Well it drove me bananas trying to open the case, and then found out later that the case is glued shut.  39 minutes of Bliss will have to wait.

Erni has titled this one: Meaningless Guggenheim 2012.  I know that he has recently completed this one because it was still warm when it arrived... and the candy was still within its sell by date.

Thank you Erni & yes we should meet up someday at the Guggenheim BilBao.  That would be a hoot!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Banana guards are a must if you go out walking and don't want a surprise after your lunch.  Yes, everyone should have one.  I wish I had two!

ONE OF MY OLD BANANAFISH ARTISTAMP SHEETS:

  • Valentine Mark Herman

    Bonjour Banana People Everywhere!

Banana Master Dean is alive and well. He is visiting his Banana plantations in the South of France. There is no internet there, but In spoke to him on the phone last night, and he asked me to pass on his Banana Greetings to y'all.

Here are some photos of Dean's Amazing Banana Bunch Hanger (patent applied for) that he sent me recently. It arrived in 2 parts that i then had to screw together.

The Hanger has pride of place in my kitchen.

    Val

  • Valentine Mark Herman

    Sorry! Here are the photos!!!

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Wow, that is really something. So the two parts went through the mail unboxed or anything. Did the vertical part have the hook on it already when it arrived to you?

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Yep, it came in 2 parts, the second with the hook already on it, and all I had to do was to screw the two bits together (with screws provided by Dean). I talked to Dean about his 'mailing philosophy' for this  a couple of days ago, and he said that he just put some postage stamps on each bit and put them in the post. La Poste has quite strict regulations about what can and cannot be posted, in what type of packages, etc, but Dean succesfully ignores all of this bureaucratic stuff, and I've got some fantastic things from him -- including slices of cheese, sunglasses, pieces of slate, mobile phone batteries, shoes, etc. Val

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Great banana hanger! And more amazing that it came in the French Poste...just as is! But then again, Dean is charmed. gI'm afraid the Greek Taxidromeio is not so dedicated to delivery ANY type of mail as long as it has a readable address on it :-( Although, I have been considering, lately, to just try a few "found objects" that were beached near the seaside shack. However, I shall wait patiently until Master Dean returns from his French Riviera travels!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Well I'm back to check in on the Bananas.  Ah I see that Val received the banana hanger.

Katerina, don't be shy, mail & run.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

The Banana Hanger has slightly changed in appearance, 'cos every time I eat a banana that has a sticker I add the latter to the hanger.

    Val

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Good idea.  Performance Art I think they call it.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Too bad we can't see the results of that, Val ... hint ...

  • Valentine Mark Herman

That's interesting, M Banana -- I never realised that Bananas perform. The local ones must do so at night while I'm asleep, cos they seem to be quite bananacotic during the day.

Nancy Ding-Dong Bell Scott will see an updated hangar photo next time I can get hold of a camera.

    I'm going to have a melon for breakfast today, just for a change;

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Banana Map from Angie right next to Cocoa Beach is the place to be.  Thank you Angie.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Just rememeber Erni, you can not give knifes to people.  Or they have to give you a coin if you do.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Whoa, it looks to me like you knew exactly what to do with the knives, Erni--it's a great concoction!

  • Mail Art Martha

Those knives are super sharp and very useful, for cutting things of course Erni. Like remarks, edges, rooms ...

  • Mail Art Martha

I thouroughly enjoyed the article on knives, so beautifully crafted, especially the estiletos. I love knives, I used to carry a savoyard but a very cheap one. I used it as a tool, very useful. But there came a law forbiding the carrying of any blade longer than 2 inches (kids were killing each other) so now I am reduced to a  tiny Swiss army knife. And the kids have graduated to firearms.

Glad you like the STG , well you know, I don't mind if you care to join the fleet with one of your own.

  • Mail Art Martha

Why not? What better conveyance for bananas?

  • Mail Art Martha

Is that a banana skin you have round your neck? I assume it is your neck...

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

WOW banana skin coat lining.  Germany has everything.

  • Louise Kiner

Maybe everyone should post a "self-portrait with Bananas". Could be fun...
  • Mail Art Martha

Great idea Louise. I'm on. But will have to wait a bit, so I can get rid of family guests first.

Nice people but so no banana-aware.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Perhaps MaMartha could organise a Global Banana Shopping Trolley Event (when her guests have gone, of course) Val

  • Louise Kiner

Yes, I know what you mean, Martha. It's hard to show your true "banananess" around family guests. In the meantime, how do you like my new hat? They're all the rage, y'know...

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Lousie you are brave!  I'm still laughing.  Nope, I have just decided that I'm not going to take and post a silly photo of myself with bananas.  It's just too bananas.  But here I am with ballon glasses:

  • Louise Kiner

The combo of Balloon Glasses and Banana would be quite stunning actually. You could start a new trend on the Parisian KAT walks.
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Louise...that is super fun: Banana Hat. And Dean has banana glasses.

I'll just have to get out my old banana hat too (it's BLUE, of course :-)

I'm Chiquita Banana, and I've come to say
Bananas have to ripen in a certain way.
And when they are flecked with brown
    and have a golden hue,
Bananas taste the best, and are the best for you.
You can put them in a salad. You can put
them in a pie - aye.
Anyway you want to eat them it's
    impossible to beat them.
But bananas like the climate of the very,
    very tropical equator.
So you should never put bananas in the refrigerator.

Corporate Logo of the Chiquita Company - Miss Chiquita Banana

  • Mail Art Martha

Louise that hat is by far less banana despite its bananas than the silly things that are worn today. Well done I shall get myself one too. But  I am dissapointed at you Dean, i had you as the original Bananaman, the Superhero with the banana suit and the ballon glasses. He would not be afraid of wearing bananas. A STG banana event should be possible, Val, we eat a lot of bananas so it has to carry them like it or not. So thank you Ernie for the logo I will download it.

  • Mail Art Martha

I have very good news; Vincent Van Gogh is alive and well in Arles! I got a superb postcard from him, and I think he qualifies as a Superbanana. Judge for yourselves.

I am really worried about Dean, he burnt Zombie Kitty Kawaii to cinders and now drove Vincent to cut his ear, yet he refuses to wear bananas...

( Val, this is seriously good, even banana challeged relatives have laughed their heads off)

Now I really have to be AFK for a few days.

  • Mail Art Martha

    (i cannot leave this. it is addictive) Katherina this song comes from another not so clean and certainly not commercial in portuguese, which translates as ;

Chiquita bacana ( bacana is sort of cheeky) from Martinique, she dresses in the skin of a 'nanica' banana (I undestand that is a very small banana) She doesn't wear a dress she doesn't have shoes, winter is for her as the middle of summer and i do not know the rest. Used to be singed by Carmen Miranda with her banana hat.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Bonsoir! The Great Banana Shopping Trolley Adventure obviously has to call in at Arles as well as where Vincent van G ate his first banana in the Nethrelands when he was growing up. MailArt M: are you going to where a Chiquite banana dress when you go to Arles? if so, please could we see a photo of you in it before tou leave the Mall, just in case you are in breach of the local (un)dress code?

    Regards, Hertz van Rental

  • Nancy Bell Scott

With Vincent, Val has outdone himself. I'm still laughing my head off. And I love the crossed out date.

  • Carina

So funny - enjoying you people a lot and Vincent of course!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Carina, I hope you are enjoying my drawing on the Vincent letter.  Your drawing lessons inspired this piece.  "Carina says just draw", this is what I was telling myself while making it.  I knew you would be proud of me for trying to draw a bridge.

Martha at one time mentioned these types of letter that were written.  While we were in Arles, we saw one of them at the Van Gogh fondation ... I think it was there.  Not sure?  Anyway it gave me the idea.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Nancy: I would like to think that you meant 'With Vincent, Dean has outdone imself'.

I know that i justly deserve credit for most of the good things that happen not just in 'Bananas' but in the whole wide world (including IUOMA, of course), but the van Gogh Goes to Arles and Draws a Bridge thing is not mine.

    Val

PS There is no truth in the rumour that Dean and I are really the same person. there are two of us. One is a brilliant mail artist. The other wears silly hats.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Well as the song goes, "You can leave your hat on"  Besides, I can't seem to find any photos of me wearing a hat.  But I did find this one.

This is Saint Lucie, she has eyes for me, but I'm already married.  Although those blue eyes are very tempting!

Sorry, still no banana photo, or even a photo with a hat.  Martha will be disappointed again.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Very funny little lady.  You just wait!
