BANANAS

AKA Anna Banana Appreciation Band (ABAB)

The theme is Bananas & Anna Banana.  Many of our members are « bananas » themselves, others are »fruity », a few are « nutty », and one is completely « ape ».
If you are none of these, don’t worry we can help you with specially designed projects and exams for your progress to the banana status you deserve.
We will also explore the many works of Anna Banana as we give appreciation for involvement in Mail Art & "Art".
PS I you are « crackers » or « loony », this group may not be for you.
Also: see link and fill in the form and return it to Anna Banana!

erni, the box with writing on it, can you translate? I love that box.

  • Mike Dickau

The die is cast...Julius Caesar (I think). The Banana Slugs are excellent huge slugs which reside in the redwood forests of Northern CA. UMLAUT was the name my son Ian chose for his company in Austin TX-he had hats, guitar picks, etc. manufactured with UMLAUT symbol. I've worn out several of the hats...

  • Nancy Bell Scott

That's a way better answer than anyone could possibly hope for; I love your son's company name and hat.

  • Mike Dickau

ERNI! GREAT HAT! I'LL HAVE TO PASS IT ALONG TO MY SON. YOU ARE RIGHT-PEOPLE ASK: "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" BY THE WAY YOU DEFINITELY WIN! GOTTA PEEL OUT! LATER, MIKE

  • Nancy Bell Scott

It is exotic in the U.S., Erni. As a copyeditor I *loved* manuscripts that required me to mark umlauts. American punctuation and lack of accents can be pretty boring.

  • Mike Dickau

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Carina, there are lots of umlaute on bananas, and I think it's time that you started to make a Finnish-keyboard-Banana contribution to this debate...starting with that little circle thing above the first 'a' in your street name. We all need to know what it has to do with bananas.....

  • Mike Dickau

ERNI: YEP! NJP AND CRT ARE TOPS IN MY BOOK! SEEMS LIKE BANANAS ARE RELEVANT TO EVERY CORNER OF HUMAN THOUGHT...

  • Nancy Bell Scott

There are umlauts on those bananas right now. Val was right.

  • Mike Dickau

ERNI: CATHODE RAY TUBE USED IN OLDER TELEVISIONS AND COMPUTER MONITORS...

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Erni, your whole house looks like your packages--very happy, colorful, no gaps--ratna, if I understand the term.

Now I spot a flying banana on the tv.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

The colorfulness is very appealing, Erni, no doubt it comes from an enormously colorful mind, and the Tibetan inspiration is clear. Why else would Ruud start your own fan club--all that colorfulness needs its own place to be seen and heard.

I know why you added the banana--which is why the word appears in this sentence only 11 words ago.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Happy Easter :-) Banana People!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Mail Art Monday sees an Anna Banana in my mail box! Wow!

    Spray-color envelope, numbered and signed...

and the paper that protects the table is then cut into A4 mail art, too!

    A special treat indeed!

  • Mike Dickau

ADD TO AND PASS ON POSTER WITH BANANAS:

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Thank you for that Jill, this was amazing, but I must warn the others. This video was recorded at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, and the grapic part of the song is; "get down on all fours and we'll make Banana Love."

Very French indeed, and explains Jill's last name!

Just kidding of course, thank you for this Jill.  It was very funny and do they have talent.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Note to all about Banana practices in France. Only in Paris (proper, where Dean lives, not the suburbs) is Banana Love practiced at the present time. In the Deep South  (where Val lives)of France the asparagus season has just begun.

Val, on behalf of the New ABAB -- Anna Banana Asparagus Band

  • Louise Kiner

This might be a bit off topic, but I saw James Cameron (the Director) illustrate the sinking and breakup of the Titanic on tv the other night using a banana. I'm hoping to find a YouTube link as it was pretty ingenious.
  • Louise Kiner

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

WOW Welcome Louise & Jill.  Good to have you in the Banana Band.  Louise & Val can play guitar, but can anyone tune a Banana?

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Great video Lousie, but where is the 3D version?  I am told that in the new Titanic 3D version, the ship doesn't sink and arrives in New York on time and everyone lives happily ever after.  Movie goers are asking for their money back.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

IF from Amy Irwen, not only was the envelope great ...

    ... inside there was a little gem:http://iuoma-network.ning.com/photo/code-from-amy-irwen-of-minnesot...

  • Mike Dickau

    WHO CAN FORGET BANANARAMA?

  • Mike Dickau

  • Nancy Bell Scott

The Red Bag arrived here today via Vizma via Katerina, and is deeply infatuated with our bananas. It plans to sleep with them tonight, even though the bananas have several umlauts:

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

OH Erni, did you do the Gepa piece?  I also found these dried bananas and was working on something.  I like your idea better.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Three bananas lookin' at ya, Erni!

they all have mustaches and don't look too happy!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

my banana friends might not like seeing their relatives all dried up? ;-)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Could be Nirvana for banana!

They seem to be enjoying a good swim!

  • Nancy Bell Scott

The 67% Banana piece is whopping great. And makes me laugh.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

I'll join in the Banana Day Bananza. Val

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

I'll join, too, in the Banana Day bonanza..and this guy too?

(Look, he has a cap like Valentine!)

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Yes, and whatever is left of him.  That one took a good beating.  My guess is someone in the Greek post office doesn't have a sense of humor!

  • Louise Kiner

I would be bananas not to join in on the fun!
  • Nancy Bell Scott

It's in your messages, Angie (I think). Dean googled it or something and the day exists. For people who just plain and simple love bananas. I do love them but sometimes wish they were magenta.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Babs to the Banana Band.  Happy to see that you will peel right in fine.

For the rest of you to know, Babs is well known in South Dartmouth.  So much as she doesn't need a complete address.  Just Babs & South Dartmouth, MA 02748, and it will get there.  (Actually she has banana connetion at the post office.)

Hope to see you in the mail soon Babs.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

So you ask; What does the Khmer New Years 2012 have to do with Bananas?

Well while out for a walk we ran into a  Khmer New Years celebration.  It's always amazing  the things we stumble on in Paris.  And to tell you the truth, I didn't even know that the Khmer had there own New Years.  But hey, a celebration is a celebration, so we joined in.  That's me the one in orange.

This is a temple left over from the Paris Colonial Exhibition of 1931

AH here comes the Banana part.   My lunch on a park bench, fit for a Khmer King!  They were sell these strange fried bananas ... of course I had to have one.

Boy does this look good?   We had to eat it as it is part of the culture.  Actually it was quite good.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

Dean, I thought for a moment that you had sold out and become an Orange!

That was worrying, until I scrolled down a bit and then saw that you had become battered and fried.

I always assocaited Rouge with Khmer, but perhaps the orange ones are their cousins.

Today's boring musical fact: no musical lyrics writer (so I once read somewhere) has ever managed to find a word that rhmes succesfully with orange. Now there's a challenge for all you fruit cakes...

    Val

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

poster from one of Woody Allen's earliest films, well the title tells it all!
:-) it's very funny, bit crazy. it was not altogether successful, though. anyways i like Woody's films a lot.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Thank you for that Ptrzia.  Oh I remember I was a young student in Paris when that one came out.  Actually I'll have to see if they have the DVD at the local library. (Yes, it seems that books are just a small part of the city library.  Now they have CD's, DVD's and blow up .... Bananas.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

That thing you ate on the street, Dean, looks like a dead radioactive rat. Be careful.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Don't worry Nancy, It had been blessed by Shakyamuni himself.  Well that's what the man in the stall said.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

But I do worry. You are wonderfully innocent, and apparently very easily taken in by taxi drivers, street vendors, and who knows what else. DKult needs to appoint a bodyguard for you.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

    Or a chaperone.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

    Thank you Nancy

    Good yoke Erni

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

OH yes OH yes, and here is a Banana Mail Art Piece from Jill French.  And a great envelope.  Thank you.

A study of the effects of Monkeys eating Bananas.  If I rememeber correctly, this was also the theme of my masters.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Oh yes, and it doesn't stop there.  One from Mail Art Martha in Retailia.  Thank you

Banana Fashion is hot in Retailia.  And speaking of hot, I can't wait to shot a video this summer with Mail Art Martha and her Mail Art Trolley.  Did anyone see my new video of the Zombie Kats?  The trolley will have better FX.

  • Louise Kiner

I'm hoping we can get the Kats to Retailia for when the Olympic Torch comes through. It could be a spectacular opportunity, Dean.
  • Mail Art Martha

oh I am looking forwads so very much to  have Kitty here but what has Dean Tarantino Marks in store for the shopping trolley? Er, i just noticed the pun, not intentional, sorry!

  • Mike Dickau

JUST MADE AN ARTISTAMP OUT OF A PHOTO OF MY BANANA DOMINO PLATE SCULPTURE:
