BANANAS

AKA Anna Banana Appreciation Band (ABAB)

The theme is Bananas & Anna Banana.  Many of our members are « bananas » themselves, others are »fruity », a few are « nutty », and one is completely « ape ».
If you are none of these, don’t worry we can help you with specially designed projects and exams for your progress to the banana status you deserve.
We will also explore the many works of Anna Banana as we give appreciation for involvement in Mail Art & "Art".
PS I you are « crackers » or « loony », this group may not be for you.
Also: see link and fill in the form and return it to Anna Banana!

    Ok, I'll bite!

  • Nancy Bell Scott

I'm here to learn. Also, can this group take away any bananas in my house that grow more than one brown spot on the skin? Wait, I consider those garbage and should take this question to the trashpo group.

  • Valentine Mark Herman

    Two suggestions:

We should have an ABAB session at Mim's Meeting in Paris next month.

For those who can't attend we should ask for mail art contributions that could be incorprated into whatever we come up with.

    Val

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    I'm going bananas...I went bananas...so I guess I must go bananas again!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    Banana Mail Art? Or Art-with-a-Banana?

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Oh, no, Nancy! your bananas should have specks and brown spots..several brown spots. Not overly ripe, but not green either. And...

never, never, never in the refrigerator!

You all know what Chiquita says:

    I'm Chiquita banana

    and I've come to say

    - Bananas have to ripen in a certain way

    - When they are fleck'd with brown and have a golden hue

    - Bananas taste the best and are best for you -

You can put them in a salad

    - You can put them in a pie-aye, aye, aye

    - Any way you want to eat them

    - It's impossible to beat them

    - But, bananas like the climate

of the very, very tropical equator

    - So you should never ever...

put bananas in the refrigerator." ;-)

  • Nancy Bell Scott

Good stuff, you two, but bananas are overripe if there is a brown spot. Not enough greenness makes a person gag, be careful. You have been warned.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Katerina, I'm trying to guess what tune this is sung to.  The only thing I can think of is the banana boat tune.

Nancy is here to learn, so I think we gave her a good start for the first day.

  • prettylily

No spots for me either.  Way past their prime!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Prettylily, Nancy, Katerina, & Diane!  You are all way ahead of me with this banana art.

Katerina, I you tubed the song, so I got it straight now.  After all, we are a BAND!

The "G" word should not be used here.  Not for "Group", and surely not for "Goofy"!

  • prettylily

Well, who would have thought?  I always looked as bananas as something to eat or draw and I don't like them too ripe.  Guess I will have to try using them some other ways.  Like a painting or writing too, bathing with them, etc.  Thanks, Katerina, for posting Dean's BINGO list.  I feel enlightened - knowing my banana has a second life.

  • Nancy Bell Scott

I'm glad someone here has good taste in bananas besides me, Sue. And the bathing thing could be fun, though they might clog pores with their strange texture.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome "E", happy to see you could join us.  I'm looking forward in seeing how many scary things you can come up with using a banana!

Dear Banana Band, If you would like an updated nice copy of the Anna Banana Bingo, I can e-mail you a nice copy that folds in two and has all the information on the reverse page.  Just let me know.  Also there are a few changes I got from Anna Banana ... like splitting a banana in 3 the length way.

Apparently it works, basically it’s like pushing a banana through the Mercedes symbol. I’ll have to do some research and get back to you … now where did I park the Mercedes?

  • Ruud Janssen

  • Ruud Janssen

You could still print the forms, fill them in and return them to Anna Banana. She gave me this last year when I met her in Maastricht at Hedah where Rod Summers was doing an exhibition. She did a performance and I did a performance there. Have some photos too (will look them up. Also Met Her in Hagen (Germany) and San Fransisco (USA)  on other occasions, but that were the 90-ies. Also interesting photos I will have to look up.

    Mail-Interview with Anna Banana

Also interviewed Anna Banana. Published in bookform too with others...

    see: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/mail-interviews---part-1/2663836

actually a publication with also interviews with some historic Fluxus Artists too.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Thank You Ruud for all this information and the Anna Banana Research form.  The form we were speaking about was Dean's Anna Banana Bingo Banana sweepstakes.  And yes, once completed, you can win a lunch with Anna Banana herself!  Do you mean you have never received a copy?  Is there a way to put a powerpoint file on the site that "Band" memebers can download?

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Cernjul & Ruud, The more Bananas the better the Band plays!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

You can polish your shoes with banana skins...oh, yes,

it is on the Anna Banana Bingo list ;-)

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Oh Janine,  wow it just occurred to me, yes I bet you are actually LIO using the name of Janine just to fool us.  Welcome to the Band, we have a singer!

  • DKeys

Bananas in pajamas is a great song--but my computer is not letting me post the youtube link. Delicious looking fried bananas Janine!!

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Thank you, Angie, for bringing the link for Banana Man here...and his Banana Underground. That is Wolfgang Skodd in Germany, and he is a member here at IUOMA but no longer uses his page. He had a bad run in with a hacker/virus...so I guess he did a banana split?

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Janine...Chiquita bananas from Colombia via SWITZERLAND???? ;-)

  • Cernjul Viviana María

Keisuke Yamada, a Japan-born artist uses banana fruits for his carvings.

  • Mail Art Martha

Hi, I am off my trolley, is that a good entry qualification to join Bananas?

  • Mail Art Martha

Oh! I made it! great you shall get some banana art from me soon

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Mail Art Martha,  "off my trolley"  very funny I'm still laughing as I haven't hear that phrase in years.  I'm sure the Banana Band can help you get back on the rails to becoming Bananas!  Happy to see you here.

I'm not sure if the rest of you know Mail Art Martha.  She has a walking Art Gallery.  She has Mail Art attached to her shopping trolley and lives on an island.  Great videos to see on her page if you get a chance.

Barcodes & a Trolley, great theme for a card.  Just need to slip a banana in there somehow and I'll have my first Banana Mail Art.

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

    some bananas stamps :-)

  • Ruud Janssen

Anna Banana at the Hedah in Maastricht 2011 (She gave me some banana's for the way home too).

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Ptrzia (TICTAC) & Jen,  What a split having you two with us!

Hi Janine,  Yes Angie is correct.  If you put crackers or looney into Google translate you will get "folle".  However, I know that you are really looking for the value and level of the word.  Well I would say that 'Off ones Trolley" is just one level above crackers or looney!  Right Martha?

Happy you received the Fruity card, although I wouldn't consider this one of my Banana colletions.  But one can not be picky with fruit!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Thank you Angie, I think you will have royally confused Janine with these.  "Hors son chariot et Pas de pétards", I still laughing.  Hey, I'm going to try to slip these in a conversation just to see the reaction of people.

  • cheryl penn

Ok - I actually live in banana land - in more ways than one...

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Cheryl, yes I thought you might be a little, and Val was right.  Good to have you here to peel around.

No problem Janine, you can say what ever you like.  This is banana land and you are in the Banana Band!  "So get on your trolley and ride like the wind." (No that is not an English expression, I just made it up.)

  • DKeys

Richard Canard leads the anti-banana movement

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

  • cheryl penn

    Your Honor,

I'd like to make an appeel?

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Peel away Cheryl, I'll close my eyes.

Diane, Don't worry, we'll get that Richard.

    Erni,  Going up or Down?

And check out the Banana report, Mostly sunny with a bunch of clouds.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

Oh, yes, we have no bananas

    we have no bananas today...

    (so said the Greek grocer)

    Here's lookin at you, kid!

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    BANANA BAND! yay!

    and we are singing:

"Hey Mr.Tally man, tally me banana..
Daylight come and I wanna go home".
Chop banana til the morning come.
Daylight come and me wanna go home.
      Day-o, day-o Day-o, day-o
Daylight come and me wanna go home.
A beautiful bunch of ripe banana,
     Hide the deadly black tarantula,
Come mister tally man, tally me banana,
Daylight come and me wanna go home...
I pack up all me things and I go to sea,
Then all these bananas see the last of me."
  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

    ...banana boats ;-)

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Yes Katerina you got it.  DAY O

Janine, you might need to check with Erni, but I am sure that Bob Dylan wrote the banana song (Day O), and was also the lead singer of BananaRama, but wore a skirt and not too many people noticed that it was actually him dressed as a girl.  Time for bed, the days are getting longer.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Welcome Madame Mailarta & Geneviève,  happy to see you here, but we'll need to keep two split, or things might get a little Bananas.  Surely hope that one of you will win the lunch with Anna Banana.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

This is great Erni, I'm still laughing.  A little hint, Bob Dylan & I were born in the same State ... crying.

    Dear other Band members,

It should be noted that Erni posted this at 4:59am.  What Banana dedication!  Thank you Erni, now go back to sleep.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

I think there is an old German saying my Grandmother use to tell me; "The Early bird gets the Banana".  The German saying is a little different because Worms is actually the name of a town, and that would have been confusing.  Also there are not very many Banana trees in Germany, so Bananas are really special, and a good reason to get up early in the morning.

  • Ptrzia (TICTAC)

this banana conversation is quite fun Dean and it brings to mind another saying german friends of mine say when there is an unnswerable question...warum warum ist die Banane krum? (why is the banana bent?). It comes from a children's rhyme...I love the expression!

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Read Them and Weep (not a German expression)

So after more than 3 months, I completed my bingo board with 25 plus one I won from Val in a poker game.

So off it goes to Anna Banana and I win to have lunch with her.  Now to save for the airfare!

Ptrzia, My German grandmother always told us that bananas were bent so that they could go around corners easier.  I never really believed her, but it did make sense.

  • Dean aka Artist in Seine

Janine, Val tells me that Anna Banana was once married by Mail Art.  So maybe you can send something to Val, and we can have a Mail Art wedding.  Jen Stagg has already had a Mail Art baby, so anythng is possible in Mail Art.

My guess is that child support could be paid for with stamps!
